Help Weird issue with wifi

Mytheroo

Lurker
Hi folks, I have a weird issue when connected to wifi. I don't have the issue on 3g.

The symptom is web pages take an age to load, even google home page. This is the same with dolphin and opera mini too.

I have two wireless access points and I have the same issue whichever I am connected through. I also have issues when on public wifi.

Speedtest app works flawlessly and provides line speed. My other apps appear to have no issues, it's just the browsers. DNS appears fine using DNS lookup app which says it is using my gateway IP address as the DNS server.

So, I started a ping -t to my phone. The pings vary from timeout and over 1000 right down to 2ms, but the weird thing is they seem to drop ~80ms each ping until it reaches under 100ms, then it will time out and start again at ~1000ms or just restart at ~1000ms.
eg 374ms, 293ms 213ms 132ms 46ms 896ms 819ms 736ms 652ms 574ms 501ms 415ms 331ms 264ms 179ms 101ms 948ms 564ms etc

Ok, now even stranger, when I run a speedtest at the same time, I get one time out then the pings drop to eg 2ms 3ms 8ms 2ms 3ms 3ms 2ms 2ms 2ms 2ms 2ms 2ms 2ms 2ms

once the speedtest upload has finished, I get another timeout and then the first pattern of long but decreasing pings restart.

Any ideas?

Phone is original HTC desire running 2.2 froyo, unrooted. I already did factory reset to no avail

Have discovered that my issue is with websites with dual-stack IPV4 and IPV6 which includes google and wikipedia which are the two i use most. It doesn't happen on all public wi-fi.

I wondered if anyone had advice on what to do with my home network config to get this working. It seems that something is blocking the IPV6 to IPV4 stuff on my phone (wi-fi) but not on any hardwired PCs or a friends iPhone 4 on same wi-fi. My available adsl home routers are 2wire 2700hg, linksys wag54gs, zyxel p-660hw-t1 v2, and thompson 585v7.

edit: just swapped in the zyxel and the problem has disappeared. Something weird with the 585 I guess
