Help Weird problem with file transfers.

Hi,

I have a completely stock galaxy S II. I have had the greatest issue with file transfer and this phone. To the point that I'm considering selling it and telling Samsung to kiss my ass.

I've tried time and time again to transfer movies to my phone. I enable usb mode, drag the movie files to a folder on the SD card directory and presume that I'm done. What I find is that if I drop more than one movie at a time, none of them work. They all give the error message "can't open /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/<filename> to play'. At first I thought this was encoding issue. I downloaded 4-5 different movie player apps. They all said the same thing. Then I re-coded a few of them in quicktime just for kicks. The quality was crap but it was worth a try. They still didn't work. Same error. What I've found is that If I transfer one movie over, that one will play, albiet I will not be able to fast forward and it usually stops working midway through the movie. If I transfer multiple files, anything past the first one does not work and gives the same error.

I thought maybe it was the sd card. I've switched out three different micro sd cards and all of them have the same problem. I presume this means that the phone is the issue. I reformatted all three in my phone and tried to replicate the problem and was successful across all three. Anything after the first transfer cannot be read. I'm going out of my mind here and google is not helping me in the least.

Please tell me that one of you has experience with this.

The only way I have been able to get movies to play is when they were transfered from the pc to the phone via Samsung Kies.

I paid premium dollar for this phone when it came out. I even bounced off of iphone and apple because I don't support the business philosophy of apple, liked what was going on with android and have always been an ardent supporter of Samsung electronics and what do I get? I get a top dollar phone that doesn't support transfer worth a damn. Kies is probably the worst program with the worst support that I've ever seen, I mean I can't even get the program to download without crashing (mac version). I love android but this would make switch back to Apple in a heartbeat, I never had this problem with anything from them. That being said, I can't even drag movies into kies and upload them. I drag them in, it runs a loading circle icon and then nothing happens. Then it crashes. I've reinstalled twice now. I could not be more dissatisfied.

Has anyone got any insite into transferring to the sd card manually and a way around this error that I'm getting/

ok it seems that kies will load some movies and not others. The correlation seems to be that the movies that my phone was having a problem with and the movies that kies will not add to library are one and the same. This leads me to believe that there's a codec problem. So I guess the question now is: how do I go about converting whatever type of .avi these files are to a format that my phone will read while still maintaining hd resolution?

I have a number of movies that I converted to mp4 for my psp. I just dropped five of them to my new s2 and they all play great. I entered usb mode, created a new file and just called it "movie", copied the files over and disconected. then i hit "aplication", "utility", "videos", and all five movies were listed. I justs selected one and all was right with the world. I didn't download anything additional to do it. Didn't need Kies. Mp4 may be your answer. I have used a free pragram called Handbrake to convert movies to mp4 for a long time now.

darkuni in Android Lounge has left us with elaborate instructions on how to achieve file transfers with, among other things, WiFi. Gotta love this user. Hey, if I can follow these instructions using FTP to accomplish transferring some docs to my PC, then surely others can.
Just be sure when you type in the IP address in the search field of your PC browser, be sure and use either the prefix, "ftp", or, "http://" Otherwise, you'll find yourself looking at said IP address in a "Bing" search field, with result titled, "Why doesn't my IP address work when I...".
Oh, and make sure WiFi is enabled on both your PC and phone.
"Bing" seems to be akin to the sound one might hear, such as, "rrriiipppppp!!!", when you're out parachuting.
