Root Weird Screen Problem

recently all four of my front hardware buttons stopped working and then my screen would turn black the keyboard was closed. now it stays black about 99% of the time. while the screen is black it can still be used, like i can feel the tactile feedback from my lock pattern. I'm pretty sure its a hardware problem but every once in a while the screen will come on and work perfectly fine. It has happened when my phone rang once and a couple time i connected the charger or got a text. If any one knows how to save the phone please help. thank you.

Or, as an alternative, boot into recovery and see if it does the same thing in recovery. If it seems to happen in recovery AND in the rom you are prob right it is probably a hardware issue.

Well if your touch screen works, then its your lcd screen. Yes, there 2 different screens. The top layer screen that covers the verizon logo and find and back icons is your touch screen and underneath is your lcd screen. Im gonna say the flat cable in your ally where your two parts of the body extend out fell out of its lock connector on the motherboard. Time for surgery.

ya thats probably it because before it completely broke it would switch to black when the keyboard was closed. do you know where i can find a tut that would help?

I would google it since we all rely on it ^^0 or if all else fails, utube. I dont have a direct source because if it were me, id dive right into the project since im a electronics tech.
I would say tho the surgery starts in the battery enclosure

Google digitizer replacement on the Ally. To be able to plug the cable back in is the same, just you're not replacing anything. But here's the link I used to replace the digitizer on my second phone.....

How to Replace Your Digitizer - LG Ally

It has a lot of photo's and is very good to follow....

Same thing happened to my wife's Ally. Took it apart and reseated the ribbon cable that conects the LCD to the main board. If the touch screen works, you don't need to dive into the front. Just get the main section taken apart where you can see the ribbon and just pop it off and reseat it. There is a screw under the MEID/ESN sticker.

so i opened it up and seen that the black ribbon wasn't out of place but it was slightly bent in a couple places so im just going to get an original razr till my upgrade in july lol. thanks ally community for keeping my ally usable till now!

Hey guys im back to tell you that instead of a razr i got another ally! :)
its on stock 2.2.2 so I wanted to ask if someone could help me get it to velocity 1.2 as easily as possible.

I don't know if its necessarily easier or not but its helpful. So go to this website [App] [26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers for the download for GingerBreak and scroll to the bottom and download version 1.2 and then run the app and use it to root your Ally. It should work considering its what I used to root my 2.2.2 Ally even though it says for Gingerbread. After that, here is the Velocity 1.2 page URL for convenience http://androidforums.com/velocity/4...-2-2-froyo-sexy-sleek-stable.html#post3264301 and then obviously flash that in recovery after downloading the .zip file. Although you wanted Velocity 1.2, I would recommend downloading and at least trying Stormdroid 1.2.1 because I believe its better in my opinion. http://androidforums.com/ally-all-t...roid-dalvik2cache-fix-stormdroid-1-2-1-a.html download both the 1.2 dalvik 2 cacher patch fix and the version 1.2.1 link under that. I hope that helps. It may not be easier but you know its a bit quicker than having to search for the ROMs and the GingerBreak app and everything.

ok thanks. and what do you think is better about stormdroid?
Well Stormdroid is pretty darn fast, as well as I think, or pretty much know that it has a longer battery life compared to Velocity, thanks to the tweaks done be remicks. Also, it is currently being developed on from 1.0 to 1.1 to 1.2 now in the process eventually being made into Stormdroid 2.0, if I'm not mistaken. I'm also pretty sure that when flashing 1.2.1 and the dalvik 2 cache fix that you'll probably start off with more internal storage space than Velocity, as I got 149 mb after I flashed Stormdroid 1.2.1. Also, I love the theme too because you can download new themes, and everything looks great, like the boot image and animation and also the notification bar. Credits to remicks and j2cool, as well as some of the wallpapers by b0bness. Otherwise, Its up to you.
