Weird unwanted screen stop??

Here is where I get to demonstrate my ignorance...I got my new HTC One (M8) yesterday at my local T-Mobile shop....Love the phone BUT, I am encountering something I have not seen before. On start, I get the expected lock screen....when I swipe that I get some silly Google screen and then I can hit my homepage icon (the expected little house icon at the bottom of the odd Google screen) and I go straight to my home screen and all works as expected....

How do I get rid of the silly unwanted Google screen between the lock screen and the home screen??? I do not want it, it serves no purpose and is simply another stop before I get to the useful bits of the phone.

The Google now swipe gesture? try not to drag your finger up from the icon try to just tap it

Swipe up on the home button and select no assist as the action. No more unintentional Google Now! launches.

I am so tired of every electronic device I use trying to force advertising and junk upon me. Now all we need is a fool proof app to remove bloat and we will have the perfect phone...
