weird WiFi thing

benrub

Lurker
Has anyone seen this before? No matter where in the world I am, I have many wifi networks available to connect. They are not 100% signal but they are always the same signal strength. They are secured so I can't access them. They all start with DDW then have numbers and letters. Like 3656B and DDW365EF.

Thanks

Do you mean to say that you cannot have access to those wifi?

Ok. Unless those wifi are OPEN (meaning no password) necessary, you should be able to use that.

But in most cases like here in the Philippines, most wifi have passwords to limit the usage and for security purposes.

But there are places like hotels or cafes that have open wifi system.

Hooe this answers your question. :D

They are all secured. I understand wifi technology, I do this for a living. What I am saying is that I can travel 500 miles and the same 10 WiFi spots are still available with the same signal strength. That is not possible.

Could be default names for public wifi you are getting that are similar enough for you to recognize similarity but not specificity. Some name themselves by default the model of the device.

I notice more and more that where ever I am, even on the highway, wifi pop ups available.

The more densely populated area you are the more that this is the case.

I notice people leaving on mobile hotspots on their phone even.

If its a bother do you try to long press and "forget network" if there, which means you tried to connect or connected at one point to a source with the same ssid.

I understand all of that...That isn't the issue. These networks do not really exist, at least they shouldn't. I have literally traveled over 500 miles and the same networks show up as available. They also show the same signal strength. I am not connected to them, they are secured networks.

I think they are "demo" networks. Like maybe the phone was programmed as a demo unit.

It is impossible to travel over 500 miles and have the same networks show up, unless they were mobile networks. This is why I am leaning towards like a demo programming...like the phone was supposed to be a showcase phone...

I have the same issue. Only the network name on mine starts with DVW.... always shows full signal strength. Secured.....do you only show one network name? Could it have something to do with the ability to set up a mobile Hotspot?

I have tried for days to connect LG Phone to brothers wifi, due to secured lock of wpa/wpa2, psk, does any one no how to un-lock this secure site in order to install local password or the WSP security protectionpin pin

Is the problem that your brother doesn't know his local password, or the WSP security key? Or is the problem that you don't know how to assign the WSP key on your phone?

And what brand and model # is the router?

Have you checked to make sure mobile hotspot is turned off on your G3? You may be seeing your own network.

I'm with you benrub. I am in IT and have seen this on both my Note 3 and Nexus 5. It's nothing to do with my hotspot or some known network I can "forget" because it was never connected to or "remembered" to begin with. I'm interested if you ever found a solution as I am in the same quandary.

Same thing here. I know what you mean. I have DDW365BB, and I have a full signal on my home wifi network (obviously) and my 'mystery' network always seems to be one bar less signal strength. I only have 2 neighbors and it is not theirs. I may try 'tracking' it down to see if i get an increase to full strength somehwere.

I have the same thing. Sometimes there is only one, others there are so many I can scroll through them. Stranger still they don't show up on my work PC or my MacBook WiFi lists.

It seems like it might be a glitch in Android, or maybe just occurs on a few phones. I googled it after I commented above and someone suggested that restarting the phone or turning the wifi off for a few minutes might fix the problem. I turned my wifi off for a bit and then back on and suddenly all the weird networks were gone. It seems like some of the available networks get stuck in the memory somehow, even after you leave the area in which they exist.
