Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

Hash,

Try disabling the androidnet usb modem in device manager and try again

Just tried that, and it didn't work. It still hangs whenever it hits 11% :/ I wasn't able to get XP up and running because my CD was too scratched up.

Has anybody run into any apps that don't work with this root? I tried the screen recorder today and it spit out an error that it couldn't get root, while other apps can.

EDIT: well, I started clicking around the app and pressing random things and then the little message popped up "This program has been granted superuser derp derp." And now its working, it just took a while.

Side question, if I root my OE, will I lose all of my data (assuming it flashes correctly) or will the phone be exactly the same other than having root access. Essentially, I'm just wondering if the firmware is independent of user data or if it's the wiping the phone (user data and all) and reinstalling the OS

Thanks

Yep, rooted 2 phones so far and everything is kept.

+1 ^... Mine stayed exactly the same as far as app and even wallpaper. Flashing doesn't modify or overwrite user data

At 5:30 p.m. I typed in "adb reboot" into my command prompt. After reboot I went to my Google Play account and downloaded my Superuser app. ROOT AT LAST!!!

Many thanks to all - especially the comments on how to load a .tot when the open prompt is looking for .bin (I can't believe I sat there for an HOUR trying to figure that one out!)

Whelp, I backed up my computer, completely wiped everything off my hard drive and reinstalled windows, then tried it all again and I'm still getting stuck at 11%. I think it's time for me to give up on root until they develop another method :/

You switching USB ports? I had to with both phones I did, and as I said try TakeOwnershipEx on all the folders being used. Which Windows you install, 32bit or 64bit?

Edit: Another thing I actually did before attempting to root my the first phone was to again get the bins as if I was trying to get the MSL (already had it), just to make sure it was communicating right and the MSL was still showing up (since I waited about a week before rooting it after getting the MSL...I was chickening out).

so i am trying to root my phone now. I have no problems seeing the VM696.dll or the .tot file ... but when it all comes together i get the error "magic code not found. invalid binary file".

what do i do now O.o i don't think anyone has had this error before

In LGNPST are you under Upgrade of Binary?

Hey all. I've gotten to the point where I select VM696.dll in LGNPST. The .dll does not show up in the list and when I try to register it, I get the an error message about the file not being where I specified or being corrupted. I've tried numerous download sources and get the same result. Does anyone have a link that definitely works? Also, is there something else I could be doing wrong? Thanks!

Trying to root and I'm at the part where you do the *.* for the bin in the Model folder. I hit start in LGNPST it then asks for my SPC (I put in my MSL, correct?), then after a few seconds this error message pops up:
ERROR: Unable to load [LGNPST_PortManager4.dll]Component Path=C:LG Eletronics\LGNPST\Components4.0\LGNPST_PortManager4.dll Version = HR=0x0

Um, yeah. Any hints?

i put a framwork-res.apk on the elite from the zte score m and i reflashed original firmware and now everything is showing up unknown and 0's

If you check back and read page 11, you'll see how I got around that issue: http://androidforums.com/elite-all-things-root/551775-well-lets-get-ball-rolling-10.html#post4514299
