Wet Screen ...Dayum!

Thorman

Newbie
Hi all,

Last night...i spilt a glass of soda next to my LG phone..and the dayum thing got wet (just the outside apparently). I wiped the phone down with towel...and it appeared to be working fine.

This morning i woke up...and the touch screen is frozen. I turned the phone on and off....but the same results.

The phone rings...but i can't swipe it and answer a call. (so in other words...the phone itself works...but the not screen...SIGH).

Anyone know if this will cure itself over time...or am i screwed?

It's going to be a PIA but if I were you, I'd pull the badry, do some Googling/Searching here and start the Evaporation/Rice/Silica Gel desiccant process. You'll be without the phone for at least 24 hours but it may save it.

Having the phone powered up like it is now is NOT a good idea.

Try the above. Unfortunately soda is very corrosive to electronics (so think of what it does to your own insides), therefore if it found its way to the phone internals you may be SOL as the damage is done and drying it out may not help.

Thanks dudes.

So far today...i hit the phone with a Hair-dryer for about 45 mins...and then tried the vacum technique (all of these r on you-tube btw).

The phone screen started working...but the head set feature would not go off (meaning...i had to use the head-set or speaker phone to get it to work).

I then swabed out the plug-in jack for the headset....and the phone started working...with off-then-on screen swipe problems.

Its day one of the repair....and if the phone doesn't work properly by the end of the weekend...i'm going to pick a replacement for $15 at metro.

PS
The biggest pain of this is not the money for a replacement (15-$30)...but its the setup and numerous aps that i have on my phone.

Oh well (sigh)...that's life in the 21rst century.

Use the backup app to backup everything to an external SD card, get a replacement, insert SD card in new phone, open the backup app on new phone and restore. Everything will be back after it asks you to reboot. Just gotta sign into gmail to finish it if you don't sign in before restore.
Make sure you remember what firmware original phone is on. Then flash phone with the same firmware before restoring. If you need help with that I'll help ya :)

Source: replaced my phone 2 times already.

The motion is only 50$ out the door (plus trax) so maybe a new one is in the future instead of playing around with fixing that one

Thanks Dudes.

The motion with Metro has a replacement plan for 1 yr. You pay $15 bucks if you wait 3 days for it to be shipped from Metro....or $30 if you take it that day.

The $50 deal is a rebate plan....plus waiting for rebates and all that jazz.

Woa....Nice!

Thanks sammy. I will definitely do this today. I assume you mean the SIM card when you say external....correct? Its not some mem.card outside the phone?

How do i find out what the firm-ware is?

thanks again.

I mean a memory card. The microSD card. The microSIM cannot hold a backup for you, nor is it easily accessible to access it's data.

Firmware: Settings>About Phone you will see somewhere in there either
MS77010b
MS77010c
MS77010d
MS77010e
MS77010f

Tell me which one you see on your phone :)

Backup to microsd card
Take out microsd.
Get replacement phone and check the version. If not version f, update to f.
Insert microsd to replacement.
Open backup app
Press restore>microsd.
Select all>restore.

When app is done it will want to reboot, so reboot. Once rebooted it will ask you to sign into gmail. Do it.

After that your phone should look exactly how it was :)

I know this post is old...but my reply might help someone in the future...I once cleaned my touch screen with alcohol like a dummy...well long story short my touch screen was not responding after the cleanse lol...I tried everything...dying the phone with a fan...blow dryer...blowing on it lol...nothing worked...everyone was saying I needed to replace the screen and other phone parts...and then I read online that a magnet over the screen should fix the issue...I was skeptical cuz I always thought magnets were bad news...but anyway I tried it...and my screen started working again....sick!I would have hated getting a new phone...I love my set up now...
