Wet Screen...

Okay, so I tried to use this water trick to get a screen protector to fit with no bubbles, failing miserably and wasting all my protectors...

But, having been assured that the water shouldn't affect the phone, I turned it back on and saw that the screen's gone funny. The display looks like water is 'soaking' its way across from left to right and it's altering the contrast. Has anyone come across this problem in any form on any phone before? I'm hoping that leaving it to dry with the battery compartment open will help, but looking for some confirmation that it'll be a temporary problem.

I'd suggest turning off the phone, removing the battery, and burying the phone in a container of dry uncooked rice - leave it there for 24 hours. The rice will help to draw the water out of the phone.
 
Wow, Just, Wow. Seriously !, Water plus electrical equipment is like dividing by zero, Whoever told you it was ok needs shooting.

Hope it still works though.
 
Well I assumed the phone would be designed to resist some water, so thought it'd be worth a go. Then I noticed that there is a tiny gap where water could leak in on the left edge of the screen, by the battery compartment. FML Anyway, it's in rice in a sealed container. Will check tomorrow, or the day after if it's still okay.
 
It sounds a trace ammount of water has gotten between the visible layers of the screen and is speading slowly by capliliary action. The rice trick (or lots of dessicator sachets like you get with new shoes and the like) should fix the problem as you would likely be getting dead pixels or glitches in the phones behavior if you had actually done some damage, I'd steer clear of having it switched on overnight while you let it dry tho as it will always be at risk of shorting something if theres power.


Modern electronics are more resistant to trace ammounts of water than you'd think so I wouldent worry too much, certainly I'm consistently amazed by some of the things I've seen survive a trip down the toilet or into a puddle. Its definately worth making shure everything is dry before you put the juice back through it tho as obviousley its live circuits that actualy get damaged.


Fun extra fact for the day: Water does not conduct electricity! Its only the salts & other particles in solution with the water that make it conductive. Pure distilled water does not conduct a charge! (tho obviousley as we almost never deal with "pure" water this is a purely academic point.)
 
Screen still looks funny. Should I leave it in for longer than 24 hours? I had the phone loosely wrapped in a tissue to avoid rice scratching it, would this slow the drying process?
 
The tissue would prevent the rice from being as effective as possible, I'd suggest more time buried in the rice without a tissue. As long as the phone isn't being moved around the rice shouldn't be causing any scratches.
 
How much water were you using man!? :confused: The technique literally only needs the thinnest of covers to work..

There are lots of videos (even a couple small suppliers) advocating the use of soapy water in order to properly fit protective screen covers on phones, and many examples demonstrating how.. below is one example of this I was literally just watching..

Mate, DON'T do it. All the videos online show the same steps, and I followed those.

What I noticed after trying it is that when I had the battery cover off and looked along the left edge of the screen, there was a small gap between the screen edge and the case, and I could see daylight through it. I think this may have been how water got between screen layers.

If you really want to try it, check if there's that gap on your DHD too. And I'll leave you with this thought: if you found a hole in a condom, would you still use it anyway?
 
I've got to say, my Zagg screen protector came with a spray bottle of liquid, which you're supposed to spray on the protector, and then squeegie the excess out the sides once applied. I got a little carried away, and put half this bottle on the protector, but just made sure there was a tissue along the edge I was pushing the water towards.
 
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but did you get rid of the water inside the screen?
I did the same mistake when i put on the screen protector.
 
When you put your protector on start at the top of the screen. That way if you get any rogue bubbles they will be at the button panel at the bottom and not over the screen. Save messing with water at all...
