Help What a pickle!

First of all, hi. I'm new and I have a LG GT540. Which I have updated from 1.6 to 2.1.

I think it would probably be best to put this in steps:
1. Updated from 1.6 to 2.1 (O2/Britain if it matters)
2. Rooted the device using superuser Z4 root.
3. Deleted a few default apps with the help of root explorer. These included Gmail and Talk
4. Now I have relised that they are both necessary to download from the market
5.I have installed APK files of gmail, Gmail Provider and Talk.
6. When I try to run them the following appears:

Google Mail: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" and obviously the only option is to force close.
Google Talk: The application Google Talk (process com.google.android.talk) has stopped. Please try again" no matter how often I try the same message appears.
7.The device is not rooted at the moment

I cannot download from the market due to these google apps not running. Recently I have also found out that I cannot recieve SMS messages, which are pretty essential, but I can send SMS messages.

I can connect to the internet through my phones browser (Opera, as I have got rid of the default)

Any help to get the market and text applications functional would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I think your best be would be to flash it back to stock and start over. It would probably be easier then to get gmail and talk re-hooked back into your system, if it's even possible.

That sounds good, is it like "reinstalling" the 2.1 OS?

Sorry to sound noobish but how would I go about doing that?

Dosn't that just factory reset the phone?

I've done that before and nothing really happened apart from having to install a file viewer from my computer.

My bad. You are right, that just resets the data, not the OS. Did a little searching and didn't find much. I couldn't get to the manual because LG want's to know your imei or serial number to download documentation.

Might be in there.

Thanks lunatic59, You've certainly pointed me in the right direction.
Hope my future android-related problems are solved as simply :) Cheers
