Help What Anti Virus Are You using ?

I'm currently looking at NetQin and LookOut and McAfee WaveSecure .

I don't know much about mobile virus software and any info on other
virus software out there would be appreciated.

I went AVG free. It has been doing the job pretty good. And the best part of it is you can pay a one time fee of 10 bucks to upgrade to pro.

That beats the others where you have to pay monthly, like LookOut.

Hmmm I remember when I had AVG on my PC desktop
it was a memory hog..I had to delete it and used Avast at the time.

Might not be that way with a phone as oppose to a desktop pc.

So how is it with hogging memory with your smartphone ?

Actually the memory is worst using LookOut then it is with AVG on the indulge.

And the AVG seems to only truely run when there is only downloading or texting going on versus when I tested LookOut it seemed to be running more often for no reason.

Wow ..if lockout is that much of a hog it's a no go for me.

You ever try McAfee WaveSecure ?

I tried Macfee but if I remember correctly their free version is only a trial version. So I didnt use it.

Also to view how much memory they use do this.

Long hold your home screen.
then select shortcuts
then select settings
then select running services.
that will make a shortcut on your home screen where you can view what each program is eating up in memory.

Then you can test each Virus program against eachother for the memory they each eat up.

And then you can also compare which ones offer what and at what cost.

Im not using any. Once in a while I scan the phone but otherwise I'd rather sacrifice the implied safety for the improved performance.

See thats what I noticed was good with AVG.
Its only running 4.8MB on average. Not to bad at all for the security.
 
I've had no problems and didnt notice any memory problems while running lookout. Ill check into its usage over the next few days for ya guys.

I've used Linux as my sole desktop computer operating system for 11 years and I'm currently an android developer, so I thought I'd chime in here with my feeling on the matter.

Android is Linux, and Linux is more secure than some other operating systems. Granted there is no such thing as a secure OS, but there are no active Linux viruses and there haven't been for a while. Read this article to understand why Linux is safer. After reading that article you'll understand why it's a waste of time to write a virus for Linux and why it won't matter how many people use Linux the virus count won't grow much.

Also, each process in Android runs in its own sandbox. This setup keeps one process from affecting other processes unless two or more process are specifically written to interact.

Do you need anti-virus software in Linux? That's your decision, but many Linux users will tell you it's a waste of time. What we really need to worry about is social engineering.
 
halp i need antivirus! i got an email from a nice Nigerian prince saying my account was hacked and i needed to send him my password to secure it

correctomundo, speaking OS wise i'd rather trade some extra protection off for driver/newest technology support. granted that the two (protection & software/hardware support) are two different things. DAMN YOU GNUPUBLICLICENSE

its not a major security leak, antivirus still wont save you..

its a known exploit, just first time someone targeted android for it...
 
well id imagin itd be pretty simple if you know whar you were doing i mean its like the front door is wide open, but isent that true for anything that uses a wifi connection? plucked right out of the air. And cnn said it was a major security leak or risk, not me
