Root What are most people using?

What ROM are most people on this forum using? I searched but didn't find much, and most of the threads I saw were pretty outdated. I'm new to rooting and just installed Myn's Warm, it's sweet but I get pretty mediocre battery life compared to my pre-root stock 2.2. I'm thinking about trying out the collin_ph battery tweak and seeing if that makes a difference, since battery is the most important to me.

Myn's is indeed one of the more popular ones. I would not recommend the collin_ph battery tweak, but if you try it, make a nandroid backup first. Just keep in mind that RLS4 is probably going to be released tomorrow. Wait and see how your battery is with that and the new HTC kernel. Speaking of kernels, have you tried any different ones or just stock HTC that comes with myn's?

And since you asked, some of the more popular roms are probably Fresh, DamageControl, BakedSnack, Myn's Warm (of course), CM 6.1, Calkulin's, etc. etc. Everybody has different results and expectations, really.
 
I haven't tried any other kernels besides what comes with. Like I said all I'm really concerned with at this point is battery life...there's just so many options for ROMs and kernels it's crazy. The other ones I've been looking at are fresh and calkulins evio 2. Which kernel would you suggest? Netarchy?

That depends. Have you first determined that something isn't keeping your phone awake? Are you seeing unusual battery drain while the phone should be sleeping, when you're actually using the phone, or both? If you know your phone is sleeping when it should, then I'd say try some other kernels. Netarchy is a good choice, despite the many, many different versions, Kings is a good choice, a lot of people like Ziggy's, but it never worked out well for me. Give some of those a shot. Remember that you should stick with a kernel for one whole charge cycle at the very least before deciding whether or not it works well on your phone.
 
I'm using Calk's EViO right now and I'm enjoying it. Others that I've used are CM6, MIUI, and VirusROM Base Sense. For kernels I've used netarchy, King, and ziggy....personally netarchy gives me the best battery life (trying the undervolted stock that comes with Calk's EViO at the moment).
 
....and don't forget....you can always install SetCPU and run certain profiles that will give you excellent battery life. There is a very well written guide in this section....check it out.
 
Thanks. One other thing, is there any way to alter the taskbar on the home page (like the phone, app cabinet and internet buttons) besides what rosie settings allows? The rosie settings from what I can see only let you change which button does what, but I want to alter the entire taskbar like in those screenshots.
 
I 'm currently on Calkulin's EViO 2 ROM. I've used BakedSnacks, Damage, Virus, Myn's and Fresh. I'll have to say....so far I really like Calkulin's. It's really fast and the battery life is good. It is an HTC EVO 4G....so I don't expect to get the battery life of a basic flip phone. This phone is essentially a mini-PC running Linux so I can accept the fact that the battery will run down faster. Do I tweak the phone to get the most battery? Of course. Just keep in mind....you won't get 35 Mpg in the city with a Mustang GT. Happy Thanksgiving to all! :D
