do i need to know anything else before i get it... this would be my 1st android
It's not a cheap phone and ATT charges $4.99 per month for insurance. They consider it a Tier 2 device so that means in addition to the monthly charge you have a $125 deductible. The details of the plan are pretty liberal compared to other insurance requirements I've seen so unless you have $499 to shell out for a new phone if you trash it you may want to pay for the insurance.
Battery life isn't that bad if you do a few things to control usage:
- Turn off GPS and Wifi when not in use
- Turn off vibration (especially for key functions) and screen animations
- Download an app killer. I'm using the Advanced Task Killer free version with scheduled kills every hour.
I bought a Seidio replacement battery that is slightly more powerful than the stock unit (and it still fits in the battery compartment without a new cover) that has done wonders for battery life- adding a good 20% to my usage for under $30.
I'm using Lookout for virus protection and see no fault with its power consumption. It does what it needs to do and its free.
Get a larger SD card. The Inspire can accept up to a 32G card and its worth it since you can clear phone memory by a large margin by moving apps to your SD card. The extra SD memory will accommodate tons of music, video and image files.
And get a memory card reader for your pc. They're dirt cheap and make file transfer a breeze. I'm not a fan of HTC Sync. It has virtually no options and can be a real bear to set so that your pc finds your phone.
Before you download all of those neat apps- read the Reviews. It will save you a ton of headaches.
But have fun and welcome to our nightmare!
