Root What can be modded and tweaked?

DeadDude

Android Enthusiast
Just as the title says.

No Clockwork Mod yet.
No twrp

Got root.
Got titanium backup.

What can be stripped out bloat-wise?

This is my first android. Ever.

Slightly OT: is a titanium backup > or < than a "nandroid" backup?

Appreciate any and all input!

Moved to the root forum.

Cheers

Titanium backup is mainly used to backup and restore apps and strip bloatware.

Nandroid is a complete image of your device incase something goes wrong and you can restore that from your custom recovery as if nothing ever went wrong.

I can't answer what can and can't be removed bloatwise as I don't have this device.

So if I don't have twrp I can't do any sort of a ROM reloading?

Put differently;
So I can remove bloat apps with TB, and I think I can reload an app I've removed with a TB backup... But TB can't do a system-wide backup... Why is it not good enough?

So I'm painted into a corner? No way to roll back to factory??????:banghead:

Correct to my knowledge you can't make a full system backup with tibu.

A custom recovery, ie twrp or cwm is required to flash a rom, as of now you've got the stock recovery which means flashing a rom can't happen.

I am trying to get a working system recovery but having trouble.

I have the system dump posted in another thread if you want to help

A titanium backup is not good enough because if your phone cant boot enough to start the app you cant restore a system app or file you removed that caused the problem.

So it shouldn't be a problem for the most part as far as ripping 'safe to remove' apps...

But I have no list for my phone... So I've tried to use common sense... Disable the app for a few days and see how it goes; then back it up and delete....

In theory I should be okay... Right?

Problem I'm having is strange browser behavior (I removed dolphin and all seems normal) and the fear I lost the stock font. This phone came with huawei app for theming. First thing I did was load a custom font with it... Didn't realize none of the default themes declared a font, so no way back to the default...

Found out the root method of changing fonts affects different text than the Huawei theme app does... Do different fonts through both and you get different effects...

Now I am trying to understand the theme file format so I can manually add the default font into a theme...

I've also used ?romtoolbox\toolkit? To edit a txt file and remove the camera click.

How to change lock sounds? Huawei theme app supports this, but hisuite claims to not support my phone for theme creation... Any tips? Huawei way as well as stock android root goodness?

there's the option to load an update from SD card in settings... could that not be used to restore stock rom somehow?

Yes, if there was an update.zip available from Huawei. However, there is not. There is however, thanks to myself, Clockworkmod for this device. Clockworkmod could be used to make a full nandroid backup of the stock firmware, and from that we could make a ROM, but that is a very long process.

That I do not have experience with. Sorry. Eventually I am gonna take pokeme's images to make a Stock ROM, but that will take time. First though, I gotta get through CM, TWRP, and (hopefully maybe) OMNI
