a common trend when hating on the iphone 4 is that there is always ONE iphone being bashed against ALL the androids on the market.

Take that up against steve jobs, allow his platform to truly be a platform and open up iOS up to other companies. Until then it will always be android vs iphone, cause that's just how it is. Open vs Closed. Its the same reason android will win over iOS, just like microsoft is the winner in the mac vs windows pcs market share.

Ok that clears things up a bit. But it really takes you 15 minutes to get DLNA running? You must be doing something wrong because even using twonky on my phone it takes no more than a minute or so to have media streaming through my 360 or PC.

The DLNA app on the Samsung Galaxy S give you a list of files and you have to go down the list and check the songs you want to play. You can't even save out a playlist. Everytime you restart the app, you do the same process.
There is no option to load or save a playlist. I think the app was designed more for playing video clips than playing from a music playlist.

Like we need more distracctions for all the piss poor drivers out there and the already astounding death rate in accidents for what should be a fairly simple and straight forward task? Sometime technology is bad for us. We don't need to be concentrating on emails and texts while in the car.

The car solutions don't allow you to compose email or text. They use text-to-speech to read out your messages while you are driving. This is inherently safer than having the driver being distracted by reading from a screen.

Well Google already has Google Voice which works to translate voice to text, and you got voice to SMS (which works amazingly well I must say so as long as you steer away from "foreign" words) ......so now they just need to reverse that and BAM!

It sure seems like Apple is bashing every android phone in existence, including the Droid Eris.

Can't you just browse the files using the clients ui? I suggest giving twonky a try.

and the car solutions, well, may make it safer, but it doesn't make it safe.

But with an open platform guess what you get? Phones like many Androids that lose support from their manufacturer because they just released a new phone 4 months later. Windows is not open, so I don't know where you get that from, although their market strategy for the Windows Phone 7 is the perfect way to combat both problems that Android and Apple have. Android OS will probably beat iOS, but that doesn't take care of the problem that manufacturers and cellular networks have complete control of updating the phone.

You're also choosing AT&T because of your car. You have to pay for their data plan and it doesn't cover most of the country.

And your reply means what??
You need a data plan with any new Android phone regardless.

As for ATT, carrier performance is all anecdotal. Ever hear the phrase YMMV? I happen to be in a very good ATT area so your reply means what??? Some people actually choose ATT and it has nothing to do with the iPhone.

Again, what does ATT have to do with this?

I don't think the issue about Windows being open was discussed. I said earlier that their GROWTH is similar. And if Google and steer clear of some of the mistakes Microsoft has made they really will be successful. What Google needs to do is do a better job at branding, rather do ANYTHING to signify branding because that is something that is really lacking on Android phones.

And I don't think that it will matter particularly about manufacturers competing. I mean look for example how HP and Dell competes. In the end it's still helping Windows grow. I can see where cellular networks competing can bring up an issue but as long as the competition is not directed towards the Android phones it shouldn't honestly matter.

And again, people like choices.

There's no denying that you said Windows was open sourced. You may have just made a mistake, and I'll accept that, but this is what you said in your post. And I 100% AGREE with Google needs to brand. Everyone likes to be a part of a brand. It's the reason why Apple is so successful. Google needs to get that little green robot on everything they can to draw in as much people as they can.

All I'm saying is that Google needs tighter control over what cellular companies and manufacturing companies can do with their phone. The ONLY thing Android lacks is consistent updates of manufacturers older hardware.

If Google can manage that, I'll switch back in a heartbeat. I love Android, I love the community. I hate the 3rd parties that make the experience difficult for me to enjoy. This is why I absolutely LOVE the Nexus One.

Samsung Captivate has gyroscope :) with the number of Android phones being released the i4's hardware will be surpassed by many phones before Apple puts out another phone.

Unfortunately that also means that your current phone's hardware will be surpassed when Samsung, HTC, Motorola releases 10 new phones by the end of 2010.

If you're going to use it in a car then the plan has to be able to cover you while on the road.

Haha I don't think I said that part but I remember reading it in one of the prior posts by someone else I think. I hope it really wasn't me who said it b/c then I'm just going to look like complete moron (aka Steve Jobs).

I think that quote, or what I understood from that quote, was that Android will beat iPhone in the same way that Windows beat Mac and not necessarily saying Windows is open.

I don't know why but I can't believe we started a talk about comparing iOS vs Android to talking about Windows and Mac. I'm sorry to have introduced Windows and Mac into this thread......I feel ashamed.

Ah! You're so right! I'm so sorry. Said by another member

This silly... It is fair to compare iphone 4 to pre 2.2 android because all the phones you are comparing to the iphone 4 DO NOT run 2.2 and iphone four only runs iOS 4. The 3Gs runs 4.0 great. The 3g is older then the g1 which will never officially get 2.2.

Huh? The Droid X, Incredible, and the latest HTC phones are getting 2.2 pretty soon. Proof: leaks are already floating around for all those phones plus the Galaxy S and its variants. So, uh...

The 3GS runs 4.0 great? Hahahahaha. I guess the 3GS users who insist otherwise must be lying, I'm sure.

Like the iOS is faster most of the time, doesn't suffer from Lag a lot of the time,

Yeah, the latest iOS runs so well on any model that's not the iPhone 4. No lag at all. No added dropped calls/wifi signal problems, nope.

Oh wait.

Not sure what it is about this display. I saw it first hand the other day and used the phone for an hour or two. The guy who owned the phone kept bragging about it, too. I don't understand, it doesn't look any better nor is it any easier to read than my Droid screen at a normal viewing distance. What is the big deal besides the technical specs?

As for the first post - what can the iPhone do that Android can't? Nothing, really. Although it can drop calls quite readily. Our phones can't really do that out of the box unless you move to a very low signal area.

U are officially blind. Time to turn in your drivers license. I admit the lacks in certain areas, but that damn screen.........wow. It is something serious. It's clearly better by a mile compared to any display on any device period on the market.

the screen is pretty sharp in all aspects

But it is a smaller screen and larger text is easier to read. I have to hand it to them, if you're going to be stuck with a 3.5" screen, this is the best way to do it.

Not true. I've been on tmobile for about 6months now without data on a nexus one, data was just not worth it in my opinion cause i'm mostly around a wifi location. Works out nicely and I enjoy the android experience for rather cheap actually.

+Apple devices have fantastic resale value. There are people willing to camp outside in line for a week to buy one. That means buy the latest and sell your old one. Fencing it is easy and lucrative...

I will illustrate the arguments in a direct comparison between all of Apples phones and just one Android phone. The Motorola Droid 1

Build quality? hmmm The iPhone 3GS feels cheap and plasticy compared to my Motorola Droid 1. Dropped down the stairs onto concrete. Cant find a mark on it to save my life. I shiver to think what would happen to the nice glass corners on an Iphone 4 if the same accident where repeated.

The iPhone4 looks pretty cool and feels pretty nice. Too bad you have to hide it in an ugly case to prevent signal loss. I have big hands. I cant strangle the signal from my droid. I tried. In my basement. With one bar. For 30 minutes. Couldn't do it.

The retina display is nice too. 960x640 beats 854x480
Apple's iPhone 4: Thoroughly Reviewed - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News Droid has better contrast.

The apps for iphone do tend to be nicer than the apps for android. True... Except, Google Maps, Google Voice, Google Calander etc. You know the important stuff that syncs not to your computer but to the big beautiful cloud.

Bluetooth sucks on android. Its true. I hope they fix that.

Iphone 4 has a nice camera. Iphone 3gs, 3g, 1, don't. Droid 1 has a crappy camera... until fro yo fixed it.

Iphone 4 has a fast processor. Nice... My droid runs at 1.2ghz.

Iphone 4 has 512ram. 1+ for Iphone 4 over a 8 month old phone.

Voice use sucks on iPhone. My droid acts as a speech to speech translator. To be honest, I dont know if the iphone can do that. Any one who still uses an iphone answer that one? I'm curious.

AT&T sucks. I switched from AT&T to verizon. You know where that is going.

Android has better multi tasking. Period.

One more word: Tethering. Rooting, Roms, overclocking, live wallpapers, standard frikkin usb ports, microSD, free OTA back ups.

There is one thing that Android users are guilty of though. We have a more holier than thou attitude towards what we view as deluded zealots sucking at the teat of Steve Jobs.
