Help What Class SD card support?

Has anyone seen what the DROID BIONIC has for SD card support (what class?) It supports a very large 48GB of storage, but is it fast access?

Actually, Kingston (at least) makes a 32GB Class 4 but it matters little if the BIONIC only transfers at Class 2 speed. I guess we will have to wait a little longer to get the full specs for the BIONIC.

I actually just picked one of these up. I'm not fully convinced it makes a dramatic difference in speeds on my OG Droid (without some means to objectively measure), but it certainly did double speeds when compared to the OEM Class 2 card, when transferring files to/from my computer, according to Ubuntu.

I would not expect ANY performance improvement in the OG DROID because it will only transfer at class 2 speed. You do have the benefit of more storage, but not more speed.

I wanted to upgrade my OG DROID, but held off when I discovered it would not take advantage of any speeds above class 2.

That's the point of my starting this thread. What will the BIONIC have? (Not what cards are available.)

I am intrigued that a class 4 card improved PC to DROID transfers. That would indicate the limitation in speed is not in the circuitry of the SD card itself, but somewhere in the processor chip on the DROID. It also means that mounting the SD card for PC access bypasses the DROID processor.

So... Does anybody know what speed the TEGRA 2 will transfer at? Time for some more research!

Still no definitive info in the TEGRA 2, but I did find a 32GB Class 6 Micro Sd on Amazon (Komputerbay 32GB MicroSD SDHC Microsdhc Class 6) and the specs I could find on the TEGRA 2 are encouraging.

Patience, Patience...

It really does not matter since the only thing that is different is the write speeds. The read speeds are the same across all versions. So unless you are writing a ton of data to your phone it should not matter.

The card class is based on the lowest sustained write speed but the read speed is usually faster (and varies.)

See the WikiPedia article at
Secure Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It includes the quote "Furthermore, for most cards, the fastest read speed is typically swifter than its fastest write speed.."

It also includes a table showing the different read and write speeds with the associated class, and a class 6 card reads and writes 3x times faster than a class 2 card.

So.... I believe it does matter.
