Help what do i need to do???

ive got a desire s (1.47.110.3 android version 2.3.3) on t mobile with the delayed text messages problem and sometime calls not getting through. sick of waiting for a software upgrade to come ota so what do i need to do to get my phone working properly please?? flash a new rom??
