What do you carry for self-defense?

In Texas you have to get a concealed handgun license to carry your weapon on you. To keep a gun in your car or home and property you do not. You just need to be able to pass a background check to purchase the firearm.

We can open carry in public also, its not just in car or home.. you can go downtown houston and open carry a ak47 for all you like.

We just cant have a loaded clip in the gun if its concealed.

Same goes for shottys and rifles.

Ok, I'll go on record. I carry so don't mess with me. :) I have carried for years and have never experienced a reason to draw my weapon. I do hope my good fortune continues. I carry a Sig Sauer P320c and I'm proficient with the weapon. I don't brandish it about. I normally don't talk about it. It's just a part of me. I believe it's better to be prepared than not. I'm licensed to carry but my fine state of Kansas now allows open or concealed carry without the card. I liked the laws here better when you had to prove you were proficient with your carry. I feel uneasy that all it takes in Kansas is a desire and money to walk down the street with a loaded gun. Crime rate is low here and I don't frequent areas where I might encounter an altercation. I'm a very easy going guy and will have to feel quite threatened prior to using deadly force. I am trained to do so if need be.

Just like Boston! Are you from Boston? J/K.

Rifles and shotguns are legal here too but unless you take them apart you can't carry them incuspicuosly. I'd rather have "open carry" like Florida. You don't hear about Florida for gun violence anymore. They have open carry laws.

Massachusetts is pathetic with weapons, you need a firearms ID to carry a letter opener. FID was also required for mace or OC spray, but they relaxed that a little bit as of a few years ago. It's still frowned upon to carry and/or use it and you can still face litigation if you take down somebody trying to mug or rape you. Assailant can also sue you for hurt feelings and a ruined shirt....

I'm the same mindset as @olbriar. Even though in Indiana I can open carry, I choose not to.
I do carry all the time. Concealed, no one needs to know what I have strapped to my 5 o'clock position :D

On my way to work my firearm has to stay in the car because I work in Illinois and heaven forbid I exit the car with it, or I get arrested.

Anyhoo, yeah, you need a very different mindset when carrying...be calm, cool, collected, vigilant, and don't let your ego take over ;)

I carry intelligence, karma and a fanatical devotion to the pope.

I'll bet you didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!

I don't carry any type of weapon for the simple reason that I'd probably end up using it, and I don't think I'd be happy with myself afterwards. You can't undo that.

I look at it this way ... when I'm standing in front of St. Peter, would I rather tell him that I was hurt in life, or that I hurt someone else? Pain heals, consciences don't.

This.

I'm watching " In Like Flint" and these military guards are carrying 3 inch batons that extend to 6 inches with a thick grip and tapered edges. I bet those would be useful IRL if you knew where to hit with those tapered edges.
