so what do you guys actually use ur hdmi cables for? the only thing that really i use it for is HD youtube videos and really cant find any other use for it. kinda wish i didnt buy it

Hi,

Just want to remind everyone it is against AF's policy to ask, distribute, discuss sites that allow you to download/stream illegal movies.

Cheers,

Considering all you can use hdmi for right now is slideshows, videos, youtube, and iphonemoviez, there really isnt that many options.
Does "video" apply to only video content downloaded to the SD card and run through the phone's media software? Or does it also apply to Flash video content on websites? I have tried to get NHL games to hook up to my TV, and I got nothing.... but now that I think about it, I wasn't using the default browser (if that makes a difference).

I dont see another thread covering this.
What exactly is HDMI? What does it do? How do you use it?
lol. Anyone can call me a "newb" or whatever but, i dont know what it is.

So if anyone can help and explain exactly what it is and how to use it.
Thanks:)

HDMI is an output that will send high definition video and audio to your tv, as long as your tv has an HDMI input. As far as I know it only works for showing photos and Youtube videos right now on the Evo. You can get a cable on Amazon for a buck or two if you wanna give it a try. You'll need a micro HDMI to standard HDMI cable. :)

Noob. JK, I was surprised you didn't know what HDMI is. Its basically the highest quality way to transfer audio/video now. Commonly used from an xbox, cable box, computer to an High Definition Display (TV, Monitor). It replaces a DVI or your standard COAX cable that you're probably using now. The EVO, like the guy above mentioned above uses "MICRO" HDMI (smaller connector). So your TV or monitor has a NORMAL HDMI port and your EVO a MICRO so you would need a cable that has a standard/NORMAL HDMI side and a MICRO side. Should be able to find one easily by googling "HDMI EVO CABLE" or something like that.

I just this week ordered my cable and got my phone on launch day.

I am going to use it to bring movies to the girlfriends from my htpc.

Only used one to demo the feature. Wasn't worth it so I never left the store with it. Can't see a real use/need for it on even an occasional basis other than to say I could if I wanted or needed to.

This "feature" is more of a gimmick IMO. The most practical use for it that I have seen is people putting sports on their big screens using the Sprint football (or something like that) app. I personally don't see myself using this... ever.

My kids use it to watch youtube a lot. Most videos translate to the tv screen quite nicely.

i don't have the hdmi cable (yet) but i'm thinking of ordering one because i can transfer a movie(s) .avi to the phone and take it over to a friend's place and watch it through the rockplayer app....has anyone tried this?

HDMI isn't the highest quality option, it's just the easiest.

Browse a forum like www.avsforum.com for a while and you'll get tired of hearing people complain about HDMI.

Not trying to nitpick here but... hdmi offers the highest video resolutions and highest bandidth of any video connector. The trouble most people have with it is determining whether or not their htpc is compatible with hdcp standards. The only other connector that came close to competing was firewire for video, but good luck finding a new tv with that interface.
