Help What does encryption do on S3?

I see this option under security and I have no idea what it does. It says it takes about an hour to do but what does it actually do? Does anybody use it? Should I? Or is it just a waste of time?
 
Can I assume you know what the word encryption means?

If so, you can apply that to your S3. Encrypt your data.
 
Personaly i have no need for it.
Im guessing its more for business users?

P.s, encrypt as far as i can tell puts your data into code that only an algorhythm can decode like the army etc do?
 
My concern would be if the phone dies. How do you mount that and unencrypt it?!

I'm sure its possible if you know the encryption method, but its a headache I dont need.

Possibly not. depends how secure you want to be.

If Samsung gave a proper means to decrypt the information outside of the deice, I may consider it.

I aqctually asked Samsung support if they could recommend a method, They simply replied that there are applications out there but as they are not samsung products they cannot recommend one.

So basically, encrypt your sd and phone dies, youre on your own.
 
Is it worth mentioning that if you indeed do choose to encrypt A) you phone and or B) your SD card, you will also have to input another code (user specified upon encryption) on boot to allow access to the phone and or SD card.

Does your phone contain any info you really cant share? Like business stuff or do u just not want your lady findin out bout your 2nd life lol?
Im the most honest person i know (lie) so id never encrypt.... aparently takes all day and for what?

If you must want to hide your second life from the mrs, there are app's for that ;)

Easiest free way : add a second Gmail account, you can mail, gtalk, G+, and if pix recieved, mail them to yourself and delete them from gallery.

Let's not forget there's a bunch of apps that can help you out too, and you can hide them from your app draw.

Hahaha no no, she knows about my second life =P No in all honesty I don't hide things from her but I was just thinking it would be nice to hide things from people who might be snoopy since sometimes I let my phone charge at work. Like gallery pictures and stuff. I wish I had to put in a password to access my gallery.
 
I *think* there are apps that allow you to password protect the opening of certain apps. You'd have to search play for that though.
