What does factory reset really do?

When I bought my F6, it originally came with firmware 10i. It has since updated to 12b. If I perform a factory reset, will the phone revert to the 10i firmware? Will all of my installed apps be removed?

Thanks,

My general assumption on what "Factory Reset" does pertaining to an Android device is simply flushes the following directories on the device:

/data/app/
/data/dalvik-cache/
/data/data/
/data/wifi/wpa_supplicant (may not be the exact location and is a file for WiFi credentials)

(There may be other portions cleared or may simply restructure the /data/ partition but I'm sure you get the gist.)

Considering this device also has user accessible storage separate from an external SD card I assume it also flushes:

/storage/sdcard0/

Simply put all "Factory Reset" does is remove all user apps and settings to the current firmware installed.

I have done integrations of updated system apps to the phone for storage maintenance. After a "Factory Reset" the device retained the updates so I'm pretty sure it does not affect the system/firmware portion of the device in any way.
