What does Google Backup back up?

I'm noticed that there is an option on Android phones to have Google back up your information on Google servers. My question is what is actually backed up? Is it just system settings? Do they back up your applications? Do they back up the data from your applications? Do they back up the files that you had on the device (music, pictures, etc.)?

I'm going to bump this since I'm still curious. To give a better idea of the backup that I mean, I'm referring to the option in Settings>Privacy>Back up my data.

I haven't done any comprehensive testing, but a couple things I've observed are it remembering what applications you installed through the Market and also remembering your Browser bookmarks.

I recently had a couple apps update with notes in the changelog saying they now support backing up their data to googles servers using the feature.not willing to do a reset to test it though.

Hmph. Didn't Angry Bird (iOS version) added a new feature that backups your save data to the cloud? May be it's something like that.

Google Backup seems to back up (remember) your installed apps (free ones too) as of Gingerbread. Froyo and prior did not have this "memory" feature.

In the future it will probably be used to remember bookmarks, more cloud based stuff.
