Help What does "Mobile Network" option affect?

Curious to know what is affected by toggling the Mobile Network off. Saw many people saying they liked the option of turning this item off to save battery.

Does it affect...

text messaging?
Gmail sync?
Phone calls?
Android Market?
Google Talk?

I assume it prohibits using the internet browser, anything else?

Edit: Also, what is APN? I saw an app that toggles APN, looked like the mobile network toggle...

Disabling Mobile Network stops data transfer in anything that would use an internet connection. SMS and phone functions would be unaffected.

Gmail sync, Android Market, and most other Google services would not have access to data. Think of it as basically turning your Incredible into a phone from 2005 or so.

APN stands for Access Point Name and relates to settings that are carrier specific. It's sort of the gateway through which the device tries to connect to the carrier. Some people who used an app called Quick Settings experienced a problem where toggling mobile data would screw up sending of MMS messages. In short, it's more advanced and not really something that's meant to be messed with.
