Help What does the ->| keyboard button do?

I am brand new to these forums, the Nexus, and smartphones in general.

Am I also correct that there is no way to insert a new line when texting using the basic Android keyboard? The return key is replaced with smiley shortcuts.

+1 .. I've been looking for the same feature. Miss that from my Bionic.

re ->| I believe it's the same as the tab key on a regular keyboard. If you're filling out something with multiple fields, it'll bring you to the next field.

With Swiftkey if you long press the smiley button, you get a return. Don't think it works for stock keyboard though.
