I can't seem to iron out a rather annoying niggle - my default vibrate is the horrendous 2 second constant buzz. It's annoying as hell. I've created my own and set it as my notification - but it doesn't seem to change for my emails, google talk, etc.. Is there a way around this? I'm on Checkrom V5!
Actually none are "BS". I have been around here a long time, discovered and posted the first fix on the epic GPS (sticked here for a long time) and owned many many phones since the late 1980's.
I am actually noting issues the S3 is well known for.
Battery life is really pretty bad. It is worse than most androids. The screen on the s3 is great, but samsung cutting corners on battery really shows.
The s3 GPS is definitely on the bottom 25% of super smarts. Sat hold, and SNR is on the worse end of the scale tested, and in real life GPS hold and accuracy is lower than phones in its class.
Build quality. It isn't just the back cover. it is the buttons are wobbly, the placement is also poorly engineered and eveyrone who has used a s3 knows this.
The external speaker is about certainly the worst of any supersmart premium phone on the market. that is a stone cold fact.
I own an s3, and i think you are missing the point of the thread. These are issues samsung should address or that buyers should consinder. It is a "cons" thread. Denying problems discussed here, on xda and in professional reviews is silly.
There are dozens of pros to the s3. The OP asking for what people find deficient is legitimate because for some people those cons are an issue and for most of us (me included) the pros outweigh them. But dont come in and deny known issues.
To many dam folders for your photos - half the time i never know where they go (there is camera, dcim, etc.) - also there is no organization for anything in this phone - any file you save to the phone or photo you take gets thrown all over the place
Can't make the screen bright enough for outdoor use (Iphone is bright enough).
This is a great phone but I will say as a superior phone why doesn't it have hdmi out?
On my old HTC Desire when you were listening to music on it the player came up at the lock screen so you could skip a track / pause it without having to unlock the phone - I would have liked that on the S3.
Oh just remembered another - when typing emails / texts etc I miss the ability to long press specific keys to get differant characters, i.e comma's, full stops, colons, etc etc
You won't find many modern day smartphones with HDMI out. It's because there's a new standard. It's called MHL. MHL is USB + HDMI in the same connector. There are a few options:
HDTV Adapter TIP (5 to 11 Pin Converter)
HDTV Universal Adapter (11 Pin) )
HDTV Adapter (5 Pin) w/ HDTV Adapter Tip
2 things:
1. The battery life is not the best, lasting me only about 8 hours with moderate to heavy use.
2. It needs to have a better antenna because the signal sucks.
Touchwiz is nice IMHO.
coming off a iphone 4 i was impressed with the gps, and external speaker...i cant imagine what youre comparing it to- battery life is terrible
- GPS is weak compared to other phones
- case Build quality/material is amazingly cheap
- external speaker is garbage compared to other premium supersmart phones
Every single one of them is BS!
- The back cover is a bit cheap but that is all.
- External speaker is just perfect, couldn't ask for better tbh.
x2 on these, especially the copy & paste functionality.copy + paste function absolutely sucks. It's so so bad and samsung should be ashamed.
- text message formatting is not to my liking. I really don't like the whole speech bubble thing. I just want line by line or at least clean squares.
- the default ringtones/notifications are all extremely lame
maybe some of you need to read up on what cheap plastics does now a days. honda and toyota ship cars with plastic valve covers and manifolds, because it dissipates heat faster and doesn't corrode, its flexible which in turn wont break as quick as say.... glass, which is on both sides of the iphone, why? cause they know accidents happen and thats not just a screen and digitizer to get replaced, a back to.
umm, with the battery, i had mine on 100%, listening to music, i rode a bike 42 miles today, over 9 hrs, took a few texts, updated facebook, uploaded to instagram, all on 3g at that, maybe go bitch to your provider that you have a bunk battery because ive been reading screen on 100% of the time, with 100% brightness, youll get 6-8 hrs.
the rest is user error. im sorry to rant but this is a great device, and if you want to rant about an iphone, please, go to another forum on how glorious it is to have an innovative device which just now got updated, so please, please, stop comparing an ANDROID to an IPHONE, because the two will be different, well, except for the way they look from apples stand point.
now, back to the topic.
no wobbely buttons here, great battery life, i average 8-10hrs, and i use my phone for everything (except for this cause im swapping movies) i can see my screen fine in sunlight, maybe turn off auto brightness or stop shinning the sun in your eyes? my gps is awesome (sprint) and has never "lost" its signal, and i live on the bottom floor of a 4 story appt (service provider? area?) oh, and my radio is awesome, i have yet to drop a call, or miss a text..... i really have a hard time believing someone would even put up a thread like this, almost trollish if you ask me, because then this starts, where people compare 2 different devices, and with such there will be no true winner.
bottom line, if all of you are upset with your decision, get off the pc/mac/phone, post it on here or craigslist or ebay, and get the phone you think is superior.
