What else can the IR blaster do

Just wondering if there's any other things then you can do with the IR blaster.

I wonder if my garage door opener works with the same technology, could I open my garage door with my phone?

Well with my htc one I could control my ac, and Xbox with it. But it doesn't work on this phone because it doesn't allow to use custom codes u.u so mostly TVs only
