Lurker
hi there.I'm trying to find out what actually gets lost when flashing a Rom. I have an n7000 on ics 4.0.4 xxlrq is the build and I have a safe kernel know from the emmc checker app also I successfully rooted it.I have noticed it slowed down a lot lately and am wondering various things to do. Anyway I have Rom manager and was going to try different rams but I want to know what needs to be done first.and what could go wrong or what data could get lost in process?

Greetings ward_nick and welcome to AF!! :)
Although I am not familiar with your device, do you have a recovery? If so, make a backup from there, called a nandroid backup.
You can back up contacts to google and apps with Titanium Backup.
Upon a rom flash, it will wipe data, contacts and apps. But contacts can be restored by signing back into google and restore apps with Titanium Backup.
I would also flash a rom from recovery and not rom manager.
I am sorry but I do not know what a n7000 is, or I just don't know if its another name for the device so I can provide a link to your device forum :)
But I am glad you joined :D

Welcome to the site

What make and model device do you have, this question would be best answered in the rooted section for your device, they will tell you exactly what you need to know.

To make it simple, once you flash a new Rom all is lost from your current Rom, thus the reason why you would do a Nandroid backup, as for other stuff, such as contacts, apps, etc most of those could be backuped and restored on the new Rom.

If your unrooted at the moment, just depends what device you are on. I would use my backup pro before hand to backup everything.

Welcome to AF! Hope you enjoy your stay here.
