First of all, use the newest version; second: use Boromir; third: this will not affect your ability to use anything, except OTA updates will not be available after rooting (which you wanna avoid anyway due to some people having issues); fourth, I an say Google play books, newstand, music, polaris office, some live wallpapers (not Android Live wallpapers or live wallpaper picker, you'll need those) you can even freeze the launcher with Titanium Backup after installing some other alternate launcher you'd like to use, you can also freeze the mobile hotspot tool thing, cause you won't use it, you can also freeze radio, setup, the system manager application/notification/toggle apps, and the world clock since it's a widget. Oh yeah, you can also remove anything inside (you need ES file explorer or any other file explorer) /custpack/app/removeable[with or w/olibs] without issues happening.
P.S.: I will not be responsible if you do something wrong and the whole world collapses and turns into a black hole while absorbing everything in it's way... Though nothing bad is supposed to happen, since I did all this.
P.P.S.: Oh and fifth, once you root, you can try to take it off, but it is pointless, since you'll want to keep it there

App updates will not affect anything, since they don't touch root, but system updates do, so avoid to update at all costs (which you can't do since you have an error as I do, so cheers)
