Help what happened

i recently upgraded my galaxy s to 2.2 with the cognition thing, and after playing around something happened. i just wanted to install non market apps. so i downloaded z4 root and rooted it, seemed fine. then i went into root explorer, got settings.db and edited it on my pc, changed the 0 to a 1 next to non market apps. i put it back, and now my phone is acted really strangely.. the home button doesn't work, the search button doesn't work, when i hold power, the only option is power off, and the keyboard just switched back to samsung keyboard when i had it on swype. any help..

and there's no more lockscreen, it just goes straight into the phone

You were rooted when you installed Cognition, there was no reason to root again. Something went wrong when you did that. I would try to do a master clear in Odin and reinstall Cognition.

Also, you should be able to just install nonmarket apps without having to reset settings.db if you're running a custom ROM. There's no need to 'fix' anything - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
