Root What happens with the next update?

I have the Casio Commando and have been considering rootin it. I understand that Verizon will fix the exploit with the next firmware update. What does this mean if your phone is already rooted?

You'll probably lose root.
If you froze (not uninstalled) bloatware, you'll probably be able to update.
Downgrading is an issue, because currently there is nothing other than the source code out there for the previous upgrades...
 
Just don't update. The last update didn't have anything spectacular. What could the next one have?
 
if asus4000 or someone else involved in coding can tear apart the baseband images and make one flashable to other systems we can switch between other updates even with deleted apps, that was the only hindering factor preventing me to update from 2.2.1 to 2.3.3 and if they dont change the baseband with the newest update and the update wont push then you can use the recovery to update manually if you have the boot and system files of the new update
 
I got the alert today that Verizon wanted to push the update and I allowed it to proceed. It downloaded the 35MB installer, restarted, and a UPDATE FAILED notification came up in less than a minute.

FYI I had Titanium BackedUp and almost all Uninstalled VZ bloatware, but InnoPath ActiveCare was left as is (hence the reason for the Update Notification, I'm guessing).

I suppose it's a good thing that the update failed. I don't push to talk, use Lotus, or care enough about the new phone and call features http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/commando.pdf to feel like I'm missing out. I'm sure I don't need/want the other hidden stuff that they'd have snuck along in the update either.
 
I wonder if the baseband changed from the last update. If not it would be possible to downgrade this to the old one, but then again, flashing a nandroid would do the same. Correct me if I'm wrong
 
Just downloaded ota root keeper even though I doubt I'll ever update since I'm stuck on 2.2.1

If you really want 2.3.3, I might consider swapping my 2.3.3 phone for yours.
I miss 2.2.1. The only improvement I see in 2.3.3 is that the VoiceMail shortcut is fixed; it never worked in 2.2.1.

Keep me in mind if you ever get rid of it.

Baseband version on my Commando running build C771M100 is 1. Looks like there is no change.
 
I'll keep it in mind, but i've got no complaints with it so far, the only reason i'd like it is if there is any reason i cant flash roms if none are built around it. but if for some reason i want a new phone, i'll let you know.

And my 2.2.1 also has a baseband of 1 but the build changed i've been told by GNM which is why we were having issues swapping between 2.2.1 and 2.3.3 so i guess the only way to find out is to try to flash back to pre update but you'll need root for that. anyone know if we could flash baseband through a nandroid?
