What has your Commando been through?

Just wondering who else has had their phone go through some serious abuse? I was on top of an oil rig, my phone fell out of my pocket into the cellar(the hole where they're drilling) got sucked up by the vacuum truck, then sent back through the hose into the shaker. The guy working there saw it and grabbed it out. I got some tiny scratches on the screen but still works great.

@TJGoSurf,

That's going to be a hard story to top...

I carry mine in my coat pocket when I go into building fires, and I have fallen in the water with it in my pants pocket. That is nothing like what you describe, though,

That is a pretty good story actualy, I wouldn't expect every commando to be able to handle that so congratulations. Mine has been though some basic testing at home, 5 gal bucket, shower, rinsed under sinks when its dirty. Out in the field I've dropped it in a shallow stream while using "maverick" app to track and plot some deer. It once fell out of my bronco into a mud pit, and once at a retail location, I was pulling it from my pocket to call the owner during a heavy storm and it slipped, dropped about 4 feet bounced and ended up in a puddle. I have no screen scratches but the silver sandwich plate that goes all the way around has a few shallow nicks from the last one. I have continued to inspect the phone after incidents and as far as I can tell it could handle anyone of those incedents again in stride.

For those of you that have punished your phone a bit I recomend you read up on my watertight integrity thread and maintain them as well as you can, they are good phones but casio and verizon are getting some bad names thrown at them for a few inccidents where the damage may have been prevented by the end user and was not.

This is going to sound made up, but it is true. I own a septic business and I literally dropped the phone into a septic tank. I was seriously pissed after all the work I have done to this phone to get it where I wanted. I was faced with a serious dilemna. I decided that paying full price for a new phone and all the trouble of rooting and debloating was too much. I pump the tank down to near nothing, was able to see the phone laying on the bottom of the tank. I switched suction line to a 2 inch line and was able to suction the phone to the end of the hose and pulled it out sucessfully. I then rinsed off with water, brought it home, put it in a small bucket of water with about a cup of bleach and let it soak for about 20 minutes. Bottom line, the phone works 100 percent although, I can not get the bleach smell out. Try doing that to an Iphone.

Given the choice between the bleach smell and what I'm sure it smelled like before, I'll take the bleach...

most if done is i dropped it of a challenge course i work at i was about 57 feet and it hit muddy grass. and it just got a very tiny dent on the silver border. im sure the mud absorbed most of the impact lol

I haven't had too many accidents with my commando. Occasional drop or missed catch. Most of what I have done was intentional. Thrown full force at a wall, sensors no longer worked, but every other feature worked. I'm on vacation right now and have taken it to the beach and snorkeling. It's hard to take pictures and video underwater because the touch screen registers the water as a touch.

i dropped mine into a turkey deep fryer the other day, its had numerous beer spills on it and i've rinsed it off in the sink every time

Phone goes through regular airborne operations and also lives in my pocket on my motorcycle just about every day.

I had the Casio Boulder two phones back and that thing went through the above as well as being dropped in aviation fuel amongst other solvents and adhesives, and finally bit the dust after swimming in the ocean and later a pool with it all day taking pictures and what not.

Both phones have also survived the "Boot Test" where I drop the phone in a boot of 3 delicious liters of Dark Dunkel until I'm done (and lighting up during messages to the delight of my friends).

I only wish this thing had an altimeter and I'd strap it to my wrist and I would love it forever and ever.

I take mine when I fish for albacore, 30 miles out in a small boat. If you know what that is enough said. The deck does not always drain quickly when we are cleaning up.

More than once the phone has fallen out of a pocket and slid around in the blood and thrashing fish till I found it and put it away.

It makes no sense to use anything not completely waterproof on the open ocean.

I found my Commando in the dryer about 15 minuets into the perm press cycle... which means I had already washed it 45 minutes in hot soapy water! My woman founded it and gave me that wise-ass all knowing "You just fukd your phone up" smirk. Just as I was thinking, "Damn, time to dish out some cash to buy a new phone" ...it turned on flawlessly and I then thanked her for doing my laundry and cleaning my phone!

She was actually pissed... she's always breaking her phones just touching them... like her auroa is an EMP bomb to electronics... but I can root.. hack... wash and dry mine and its good as new. Get a commando silly girl! Its the total Volvo of the cell phone world. I think I am a even worse klutz now that I have the phone. Just like a Volvo driver!

I work on the collections crew at a waste water plant. Not as extreme as your story, but my phone has been in the "shit", haha.

I have used my phone in the shower, dropped it almost 100 times, had it in extreme heat, cold, dropped in sludge, ect. Works very well. The only thing I notice is sometimes a little water makes its way into the battery compartment by the camera.

I think it's supposed to go there. There's a little air hole by the flash. As long as water doesn't get in the actual battery compartment you're good.

I sometimes carry mine for navigation in the map pocket of the tank bag on my Motorcycle. this summer on a road trip I forgot to zip up the pocket and it fell out and went skidding down the road at about 35mph. I thought "oh Great guess I'm getting a new phone in the next town!" When I found it in the ditch you could barley tell anything happened to it! just a few scratches on the back, no internal damage at all.

Good to hear all these stories... Makes me glad i got it!

So far mine has just been dropped in the snow once and got wet when i was power washing one day. Both of those incidents have damaged previous phones, i just toweled it off and stashed it back in my pocket.

Will be nice this winter having a phone that can handle me doing snow removal.

Besides the usual dropping it and the occasional use in rain! LOL Or the purposely dropped in the pool as a I walk by to freak out people.

I have a few unusual situations.

I was talking on the phone while putting groceries in the freezer, my kid did something and I had to rush over. I left the phone in the freezer for 30 mins or so, it was all frosted all around. She still worked perfectly!

Next was I was offroading with my friend in the snow the other week. He dared me to make a snow ball with the pone in it and throw it. So I did knowing it would survive. LOL!

My mom accidently washed her Optima smart phone in the washer, I was like do you think your phone is like mine. LOL

I take mine into the sauna with me and use it. I normally sauna for about 30 minutes at 150 degrees with plenty of steam.

My commando has been in multiple fires, it also went swimming with me once. haha i was scared that it was going to fail but sure enough i still have it by my side

Besides the usual accidental drops, I always bring my commando with me when kayaking. I keep it in a mesh deck bag in front of me. It constantly gets soaked and once in a while gets clobbered with my paddle. No problems. I can take pictures with it or send/receive phone calls at all times - even when raining.
