Root What I have learned

So I finally got my D3 in the mail today and apparantly I am trying to break it before I even really set it up. I have been trying some different methods to possibly find some little tidbits so I will list what I have come across so far.

1. Gingerbreak doesn't work just runs forever never finishing
2. Super One Click 1.9.1 doesn't work
3. Recovery can be accessed just like the OG Droid by holding down X while powering up and then holding both the volume buttons at the same time
4. Fast boot can be accessed by holding the up directional button while powering on and then you can pull some of the variables but that is about all you have permission to do while in fastboot.
5. If you hold both volume up and down while powering on you get the bootloader menu that consists of normal power up/ recovery/ ap fastboot/ bp sbf flash/ bp only/ ap bp usb bypass/ bp tools
6. Gingersnap doesn't provide SU privileges but it seems to get farther than Gingerbreak since it will actually reboot the phone sometimes.
7. The two bloatware that can be uninstalled will reinstall themselves after a factory reset.

Thats pretty much all I have come across so far but I will keep plugging away and see if there is anything else I can stumble across.

Just to say it I wish there wasn't bloat on it but overall I am loving this new piece of awesome.

* I am wondering if anyone else has had their D3 reboot and say update complete? My wife's did it yesterday right after I got home from school so I was more than a little unprepared for it but I will be keeping an eye out for mine to do it.

Good call...we should keep a running thread of what's been tried along with potential access points.

Have you tried the method found here? It is said to work with 2.3.4.

Also, here are some hidden menus that may or may not be helpful. I want this thing rooted sooo bad.

That requires the Nexus S's bootlader to be unlocked, which would mean ours has to be, so that method will not work.

I'd like to keep my eye on this thread. I'm due for an upgrade and my birthday is coming up, sooooo a new phone might be on the way, and so far the Droid 3 looks pretty good. I'm so used to having a rooted Droid, though, and I'm really, REALLY picky about having control over MY equipment, so I hope rooting does work!

I'm keeping my eye on this as well. I was very impressed with the D3 a couple days ago when I looked at one in my local Verizon store. I may break down and get one when root is achieved and all the functionality I want/need can be realized. Although I'm very happy with my current Droid X I do miss having a real keyboard, and the bonus of a dual-core CPU is nice, too.

Hopefully a way to root will be found soon

I am loving the D3 - so much more refined and improved over D1 and D2. Waiting for root is going to kill me.

It is also kind of depressing we wont get custom roms to use this hardware. I really hope moto unlocks.

Nice work, and thank you. It's you chancy types that pave the way for the rest of us chickens.. :D
