What is Gtalkservices?

I've read that the Android Market app also uses the gtalk service. It won't work without it. I'm not sure why.

really? i never had issues regarding that. update notifications wouldn't come immediately, but i'd get them at some point during the day. i have a habbit of checking the market for updates manually, though.

I've noticed that too. I downloaded Bright Startup Cleaner 2.0 and set it up. That seems to have fixed it

oh, good. I just posted about this issue in another threat. I will try that, too. I think it is hurting my formerly (pre-update) good battery life.

weird. I downloaded startup cleaner then did a soft reboot. It said it had "cleaned" 5 things (one of which is google talk). I then went into running services and it was still there. I stopped it there and so far it has stayed gone. Hmmm

After updating I am unable to stop Google Talk from starting up and increasing my battery usage. Is there any way to do that?

Thanks,
Todd

Wow, pure case of the Forums. Just leave it be there isn't any noticeable impact on battery. I have had 4 EVOS and I leave just about everything stock.

it is kinda aggravating though that it won't stay off. i get the google map service popping up occasionally as well for no apparent reason. even if u shut down the gtalk service, as soon as you open market, it'll open again.

If you're using the GMail app, as soon as you sync it, it's going to start up even if you've already turned it off. You won't be 'signed in' though in GTalk. If you're signed in, that's the big battery-drainer so I wouldn't worry about it. The maps one (the "location services" one) annoys me though as I don't know what it's for. I suspect its for latitude and I don't use that.

Ok to my understanding Gtalk Services is what Google uses for a lot of the syncing and communication that Android does including Calender sync, Contacts sync, Latitude with Maps, Gmail, Talk, and the Market. Probably a few more as well. It essentially just sits in the background until something needs to sync. If something is killing your battery the culprit is most likely something else but it could possibly be using the gtalk service.

Yeah if you use any of these apps (and theres probably others) you need gtalk. Just log out of Google Talk and don't worry about it. :)
