Does anyone know what this icon is, the one on the far left, and how to get rid of it?

What phone do you have? It's location in the notification bar suggests it's a system app. Knowing what device you have could help narrow it down.
Also, if you pull down on the notification shade, are there any notifications there? You might be able to find out that way if it's leaving a persistent notification.

My phone? I'm still using a 1+1. The funny thing is about a year ago that icon showed up and I got rid of it but don't remember how. I do remember searching the web for Android icons and I found a picture of that one that explained what it was and how to get rid of it but I can't find that information and was hoping someone here had the same experience. It's not associated with any notifications that I know of.
