What mod is this and what version? I don't see any "Advanced" options to clear Dalvik's cache.

I want to clear Dalvik's cache but saw threads about smartphones refusing to boot after that. Should i ROOT my smartphone and do Titanium Backup first?

Should i wipe all the cache there is just to optimize my device?

HTC Desire S
Gingerbread 2.3.3

It's the Android system recovery (2e), the standard system recovery that comes with all HTC Desire S phones. (See top line of the screen in the photo.)

You're not rooted and, for that reason, you won't be able to access Dalvik cache.

What's your reason for wanting to clear Dalvik cache? Wiping Dalvick cache on a stock ROM that you're currently using isn't going to 'optimize' your phone. As soon as you do so (which can be done by doing a factory reset), it's just going to fill up again with all the executable/app data on your phone as and when you use it.

Most likely those people are rooted and play around with ROMs on a regular basis - that's where it's advised to clear Dalvik cache, so that it can be built according to the new ROM and only contain data relating to it. I.e. you should only need to clear Dalvik cache once for each ROM you install.

It doesn't make any sense clearing Dalvik cache on a unrooted Desire S or recommending it, because it can't be done, unless via a factory reset, but then you lose *all* data, not just Dalvik cache, which defeats the point.

What is "Delete Cache Partition"? What cache it contains?

I was suggested to clear Dalvik's cache when i had problem with Facebook app and was receiving some error about peer certificate.

A cache partition is where the cache on your phone is stored - i.e. frequently used data or data that's likely to be used regularly. It's there to help speed up processes on your phone, so it doesn't have to redo every step each time it accesses a process or app.
