Root what is RIL , ??? PLEASE EXPLAIN IN SIMPLE ENGLISH

ok i have been on forums and they say RIL download , i have looked on wiki to find out more about it but it may as well be chinese .

could someone explain what they are in plain english simple terms , what benefits do they have when added to phone etc
 
it interfaces with the radio. it provides radio version specific drivers and settings to work with the radio you have.

Ive never flashed one myself.
 
The RIL is a program between the Radio and the ROM. It communicates with the hardware and supplies an interface for the ROM so it can use the hardware.

Think of it as the device driver you have to install to your PC when you're adding a modem, so that the PC would recognize and work with the modem. You don't really need to flash an RIL unless you're lacking a radio.
 
I think it lives in System, but it seems you have to make sure you flash it last of all otherwise it causes you endless issues.
 
The RIL (Radio Interface Layer) is part of the ROM and as said is the link between OS and hardware - in essence the same as drivers in Windows

Having a matching RIL/Radio can mean better battery life as well as better features as they're matched
 
Sorry EddyOS its too early for me. I'm running 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30 and 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14 ril. I think I have better signal and faster data but cant be sure whether its just a fad I'm going through!
