There is no way to really know that for sure.

Excessive roaming..yes it's been proven can result in contract term..

Stealing Hot Spot...yes it has been proven can result in contract term (and despite popular belief..is traceable on at least Sprint and ATT. I've been hit with warning letters on both)

In the case above, regardless of his justification..he was stealing services he was not paying for in my opinion.

25gb or more... i agree is over the top.

i have free tethering on my phone.. but only use it during emergencies...
i think i have used it 3 times last month... for less than 10mbs... to test it when I setup my new phone/root/rom.

over the last year... on my old phone... i used free tethering... maybe once a month.
well, maybe because the sprint mobile data on 3G is self-torture.

i dont think i would want to pay for that.. $29/month.

There is no way to really know that for sure.

And from many stories I've heard from other providers, Sprint isn't even the harshest about stuff like this. I love when people come in to make snarky remarks, but in looking at the bigger picture, it served no purpose except to simply badmouth a company.

gotta be honest.. it funny to me.. the sales rep (when i bought the phone) was even telling me to root and get rid of home internet... i thought "sounds shady" but after Sprint decided to add $40 to my plan it didn't sound unreasonable.. and yeah.. i just joined the forums to learn how to root, never had anything interesting to post till now :) I knew they were watching my internet usage and i wanted them to.. its protest to their "we can add to your bill and you cant do anything about it" attitude that's at topic.. so now im off sprint and onto unlimited data (with tethering) at T-Mobile :-) wish me luck

this is the same site where i learned to how to root.. and now everyone is all "your a bad guy" is this site managed my sprint employees? I feel like i have found a whole new world of people here.. what is necro'd, infraction, and how in the world do you get 30,000 post.. that's crazier than 150gb... and does anyone here laugh

Responding to the Thread Author concern: Oh, by the way...I didn't spend time reading the thread in its entirety.

I'm quite sure you won't have a problem with Sprint watching NetFlix. I've been watching NetFlix for awhile now - haven't had any problems thus far. Just make sure to be on the right track.

Hopefully Sprint doesn't go behind their words. "Sprint is the only company with 'true' unlimited data." :)

.*Sprint Rocks*

Yeah, we do laugh and have tons of fun here...

The place is called the fun place. You can find all sorts of fun over @ The Lounge. :D

But what we don't like...is piracy and dishonesty. Other than doing this... We are all fun.

There's nothing illegal about rooting. Obviously we don't want to have illegal things on the forum.

And tmobile throttles you after only like 2gb. You're going to be missing sprint very soon

And FYI sprint doesn't care how much cell data u use I know a family who use 75 GB a month in cell data with NO tethering its when u try to take a privalage in rooting and tethering and abuse it lke that behind sprints back is when u get the heave hoo off of the now network:D:beer:

Sprint just cancelled my family plan cause i rooted my evo and used wifi teather.. given sprint didn't know that, they just seen my data jump to 150gB a month for 3 months and made assumptions.. what it was is netflix :-D i would just stream movies all day while i did homework... I payed for unlimited data and wasn't using 5gB in the beginning but then Sprint decided THEY wanted new charges of $10/phone saying "well, you have a smart phone so we want more money".. i had 4 phones on my plan so $40 in new charges for being a regular user.. so i rooted and got my moneys worth out of it :-) So they are not "truly unlimited data" that's just non-sense gimmicks to sucker customers... if you don't believe me, test me.. don't teather your phone just stream netflix as much as possible (6+ hours/day) .. they'll cancel your service too... I'm actually glad to get away from sprint cause they never have the cool phones.. no LTE service (except Texas) even though they sell LTE phones.. so your buying LTE phones that can only use 3g :-( it's like buying a race car with no tires (waste of money)... And while i'm at it, whats the point of LTE if you cant use it?? ..."you can download faster, stream faster, everything faster but [small print] you can only stream 1 movie a month"... again, it's like having the race car but can't leave the drive way... limits, limits, limits

And sprint has lte here in Chicago as well as in 5o markets haha

We may have shown you how to root but we didn't encourage you to stream 150 GB and then blame everyone else.

I'm not a Sprint employee and we're not affiliated with any maker or carrier.

I'm just one of the guys who may face a higher bill if the data piracy doesn't stop.

so you guys are saying its ok for a company to add more to your bill, with out your consent, without your knowledge and tell you "your under contract" when you tell them your dissatisfied... and i didnt even use the unlimited data (maybe 5gb) until they upped my bill.. so when i fight back its wrong?? I cant rack up 30,000 post defending myself against all you guys but the thread was titled "whats soo good about sprint".. and the point is they're not... no lte (except Texas and Chicago), up your bill when they cant make their stock holders happy... and did you really pull a christen card on me "But what we don't like...is piracy and dishonesty." Seriously?? this site didnt encourage me but had no problem explicitly showing me how.. that make you accomplice if your gonna go all "im better than you" on me.. like you haven't pirated mp3's and your late night dirty movies... but you can cast the first stone.. so you guys would side against anonymous for standing up for themselves and fighting back... i diffidently see things different from you guys... if your trying to say i'm wrong cause your forum is vulnerable to lawsuits then i understand but to say its ok for a larger entity to push people around isn't right either... i know you guys will all jump on the band wagon and post well thought out condemnations but will some one inform me on the lingo, troll, necro'd, and how do you net an infraction (charge more to my bill :) )

There is lte lighting up across the country. It's not just Texas and Chicago.

And they didn't just start charging you more. You agreed to that $10/month increase when you signed the contract.

like you haven't pirated mp3's

I can honestly say I haven't.

again where is the evidence of this????? And furthermore every company raises prices with or without your consent. And plus like we all said u was wrong period no matter how u try to spin this on us. U wanna use that much data get the terthering plan.

First thing, I wasn't implying that you per sey is doing the above mentioned.

Relax. Take it easy, we are not your enemy... :)

There are a few things I don't like about Sprint, too. But I'm sure when we but heads on the phone -- I'm sure they don't like some of my chosen words. Haha.

You resurrected a thread that no one had posted in the Evo 4G root section for 16 months. That's called necro'ing as in necromancy - to bring back from the dead.

And while you may believe that we all pirate stuff, I'm a software developer and piracy laws protect me. I have pirated zero media in my life. Zero.

And - I have used my wireless tether twice - once in a medical emergency to help a doctor. Total of 5 minutes altogether. And each time, I got a text message from Sprint telling me that if I'd like, they have a nice tethering plan.

And - wireless tether can be used for your legal, paid-for hotspot.

I root my phone. Back when Sprint said they'd cancel warranties for that, I contacted the CEO and insisted that policy made no sense. And I told him who I was and that I wanted my warranty cancelled immediately so we could have a nice chat. Others did as well - result - Sprint stopped coming down on rooters because a group of us explained our legal and reasonable needs for rooting.

Lots of people do not pirate stuff. Lots of people really, really hate it because it's either a contract violation (in your case), or it's downright illegal (pirating music and videos).

So, your concept that we're all pirates, while a typical viewpoint held by pirates, simply is not true.

In one of your earlier posts, you said that the store employee put you up to it and you knew that it sounded shady.

There. All done. You knew it was wrong.

But, not liking your bill, you decided that you'd get even by stealing.

And then you got caught.

Don't call us hypocrites or liars or accomplices to your bad acts - we're not.

And the way you net an infraction is to violate the rules of this forum that you agreed to when you signed up here. Attached to those rules is an explanation of our infraction system.

Here's a copy for you to review -

OK, back on subject...

I hate to prattle on about my issues with the Sprint Network but...

Things actually got even worse. Not only is service very unacceptable at work in Berkeley, where just today I was down to 12kpbs down, the service has degraded to the point of being almost unusable at home in Oakland too.

I did call Sprint yesterday because I was finally entirely fed up with it. I have stopped calling lately since I have become very unhopeful that calling makes any difference. But I draw the line when I cannot even count on my only link to the Internet at home when I need to access my study materials online. It looks like I'll be forced to go to a family member's house where they have cable Internet so that I can actually study now.

I did get a very friendly CSR. She was very understanding and... completely unable to help me. She was only able to report that a few others in my neighborhood were complaining yet not enough to keep a ticket open. And I found out from her that I have been accessing the network through a neighbor's Airave. So basically if one of my neighbors (who must be on my floor of my apartment building) didn't have an Airave I may not be receiving a signal at all.

I report this because I have to let others know who may be contemplating a switch to Sprint that as a 13+ year Sprint Customer, I have never seen this complete and total degradation of service in any area where I've worked or lived. I've had Sprint in Chicago, Davenport in Iowa, and here in the Bay Area in California.

Things started to go downhill at the beginning of last year. Now things have gotten so bad that I may have to actually bite the bullet and jump ship. I really hate to leave Sprint because it's cheap and I have such a long history with Sprint. I'd really like to stay. But, I'm really sounding like a broken record and a whiney jerk around here reporting the degradation of the network in Oakland and Berkeley as they attempt to implement Network Vision. I have a tiny bit of hope that things will get much better since others here in other markets where Network Vision has started to saturate the network have reported that things seem to be awesome once a saturation point has been reached.

Now I really need to to a cost / benefit analysis to see if I can really stay with Sprint the 6 months to a year that it will likely take to see a real improvement in the network here. I won't be doing this for another two weeks because I'm simply too busy with studying. But once that test is over, I'm going to have to take a long hard look at who I'm using as my access point for the Internet and who I use to meet my personal communication needs. Unfortunately, it's becoming painfully obvious that I need to look at other options besides Sprint if I want consistent and reliable service.
