Icarus and cpuboost or a cm mod. Set cpu profile "screen off" to 240

Or root and do the same with cpu boost.
 
and different battery apps will control you data also, if you dont set it right and that can cause all type of delays, like text, mail, phone calls ect.....they really dont help and can do more harm than good.
 
Best battery savers: Root your phone, install a CPU booster and underclock your phone to minimum when the screen is off, and don't play with your phone all day long. My phone went for 3 days this way.

It actually shortened my battery life and slowed my phone down.

Toke is right about what he said. But here are a few more things you can do to save battery even if you are completely stock.
Don't use live wallpapers.
Don't use any constantly updating widgets, like Facebook or weather clocks.
Turn off wifi, gps, and bluetooth if you aren't using them.
Make your screen off time as short as possible.

The biggest battery saver I've done is installing CM7. Before on the stock 2.1 ROM I was lucky if my battery lasted 8 - 12hrs doing nothing on it. If I did anything on it it cut it in half. Now it will go all day and most of the night with me messing with it constantly. With neither rom have I seen the 250hr standby time claimed by the specs tho.
 
I have Icarus on my phone, My longest go is 41 hours, I believe. I know the best way I've found to reserve battery is to have it underclocked when the screen is off. Also, I use Android Assistant, It easily shows me what apps are running so I can end them if I need to free memory/etc. I also like this app because it's got a start up manager and a cache cleaner (Where you access the cache under each individual app under applications in the menu). I've tried other battery savers on my Optimus M but, I've found I've had more trouble than good come from it. I've not been able to save contacts, Had market trouble, etc. ^.^
