What is the best way to clean your screen prior to installing a screen protector?

I ask the question because I believe the cause of some rainbow effect may be a result of residual oil on the screen when the screen protector was installed. How do you ensure the screen is pristine? Is the microfiber cloth enough? Does anyone use an alcohol wipe? LCD/Plasma screen cleaner?

Just use any kind of pc monitor cleaner you can get at a computer store or use a little white vinegar (to de-grease) then Windex. Be sure to lightly put the cleaner on a soft cloth first, do not spray or pour anything on the screen.

If it's a screen protector that uses the soapy liquid to apply, then I like to install it in a bathroom, door closed, hot shower running for a minute to get the room steamy. This drastically cuts down on dust/lint that is flying through the air in droves even though it's not readily seen :D
 
All I ever do is breath on the screen to fog it up, then use the microfiber cloth. Never had a problem but maybe I've been lucky.
 
I just use a micro fiber cloth to clean it off.

When ever I install a screen protector though I steam up my bathroom because the steam will take the dust particles and other crap outta the air which prevents it from getting on your screen in the process. I also use a can of compressed air if something gets on the screen in the prcoess.

I've used a micro fiber cloth and also photography lens paper and solution; both worked well for me. With my Nexus I never even took off the stock screen protector until I received my XO screen protector.

Translation: Use alcohol as a cleaning agent to remove grease. (not sure if I recommend this, however) Apply the screen protector in a room void of dust if possible. (a steamy bathroom is most common) Use a bit of scotch tape to remove any dust particles that happen to end up on the screen or screen protector during installation.

In addition, if you find you accidentally trapped a dust particle under the screen protector, place a piece of scotch tape on the corner nearest the dust particle. pull up and it should lift the screen protector. Use another piece of tape to remove the particle. Let down the screen protector and 'push' air bubbles out with a credit card.

Run the hot water in the shower for a bit to steam up the bathroom as well. It catches all the dust, lint and whatnot. Then clean and apply.
 
Moistened eyeglass cloths that come in individually wrapped packs. They clean well are not abrasive. I use canned air too to clean off dust particles.
 
First of all, wash your hands and NEVER use windex and paper towels on the screen! Personally, I use Armor All Glass Wipes and clean the surface thoroughly, then use a microfiber cloth (carefully) to remove any left over smudges or lint. Finally, and this is important...use a can of compressed air to blow off any particles i.e. dust or lint.

Next, apply the screen protector. Sometimes you'll get lint underneath the film when applying it. As long as your screen protector isn't applied "wet", simply use a piece of tape to remove any debris. Follow those steps, and you'll have a nice looking screen. I've used high end screen protectors on other devices, but the good ole verizon ones work extremely well and have held up.
 
I would take caution using a steamy bathroom. I've heard of a steamy bathroom activating the red moisture sensor inside your phone.

I should mention that you don't leave the phone in the bathroom while you steam it up. It's just to catch the particles in the air. Once the steam dissipates you can enter the room and proceed.
