What is the dot in my notification bar at the top of my Moto G31?

As far as I know it has appeared when the notification bar is not full, and that is the only meaning of the dot I can find on a web search.

looking at that link I don't understand it because the dot is present on the screen when there's plenty of space for more icons And I'm pretty sure mine looked similar. So what's this proximity sensor about? The AI tells me "Typically, the proximity sensor does not put a small dot or indicator in the notification area at the top of the screen. Its operation is usually silent and does not require user interaction or notification." - and I don't have face proximity stuff turned on.

I think I've worked it out, it seems there are two types of notifications, The ones on the right which tell you your signal and battery and so forth, and the ones on the left which tell you when you have a text message etc ,and for some reason there is a fixed divider right in the middle and they will not cross it, yet another case of absolute stupidity by the developers, anyway if you simply rotate the phone to landscape there's enough room and you can see everything

yeah, that is common to have battery level, wifi, and how many notifications you got come horizontally on the screen..
