AMEN! The Samsung slider could very easily be a holiday release. I am counting on a non-slider SGS2 to hit FCC any day now... just like the Bionic just did.

You're right we will see I'm just not getting my hopes up if it comes then I will get it if not I won't care to much ill look to something else.
Bionic is too bulky brick for me and I'm not fan of ..... locked boot-loader either.
yes, the Bionic IS too bulky, I hate that. . . .but what's really the deal with a locked bootloader?
I keep hearing this but I'm not sure exactly what it means. I know it doesn't mean it's not root-able. When I got the DX2, "gingerbreak" was available within a very short period of time. I was able to root and get rid of all the bloatware. True, I got sick of the lagginess and returned it, but the point is I'm pretty sure that had a locked bootloader as well and it didn't make a difference with rooting it.
Can someone explain this to me? I know I'm not understanding the value of an unlocked bootloader correctly.
People blow it out of proportion just like the pentile argument. Locked bootloader only slows devs down a little if you don't run custom roms you won't notice it.
i really think you're reading too much into the whole stratosphere thing. that's pretty much the upper limits of weather balloons which is why it stopped there.Oh ye of little faith...
Look, it's completely obvious to the tech community and most users that 1)Samsung is releasing the SGS2 in the US and 2) the Stratosphere is a Samsung phone coming out on Verizon and 3) Stratosphere is an obvious name for the SGS2 variant.
The reasons?
-Sammy sent an SGS2 literally into the stratosphere in July.
-Sammy sent out telescopes with "keep watch" for SGS2 (skywatching, anyone?)
-Everyone is saying so.
If this is not the case, then this is the most massive PR f***up in mobile phone history and the entire Samsung marketing department should be sacked. I'm not saying the the above isn't possible, but given the millions of $ riding on it, it's just not probable.
And if it's not LTE, then the R and D department needs to be fired.
I guess we'll see.
third, you don't usually associate telescopes with things that are still within earths atmosphere. hence the telescopes for the GALAXY line as advertisement.
Good point. I would expect a true Galaxy S II variant to be named something like "Nebula", "Supernova", or "Andromeda".
Or, maybe even "Galaxy S II".
"Stratosphere" is too earthly. My guess is that the Stratosphere will end up being a nice mid-range phone.![]()
breaking news: Samsung stratosphere re-renamed to samsung pinnacle!
quick, somebody backup the forum!
[okay, not really]
I thought that a locked bootloader makes it possible to brick your phone if something goes wrong with initial flash? One of the things I liked about the D1 is that it was physically impossible to brick.People blow it out of proportion just like the pentile argument. Except you aren't taking into account that the entire tech blogosphere has dubbed the Stratosphere Verizon's SGS2. There would have been a ton of "leaks" to correct this impression if it was the wrong one IMO and it would represent a snafu of "stratospheric" proportions for Samsung marketing. Possible, but not probable.my honest opinion is that the stratosphere is going to be the 4g slider that was show in the leaks a few weeks ago. whether that's going to be verizons gs2 i'm hesitant to say, but even without something to use as a frame of reference that screen looks like 4" one

The keyboard is a plus not to mention it should have good battery life with the large battery in it.
Keyboard, LTE, large battery? You'll have a great time stuffing that big mac into your pocket, ha ha.![]()
that's because in the grand scheme of things, they're just aggregators and messengers. people tell them things and they pass it on to us. if they knew anything concrete we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now. at this point it's all speculation.Except you aren't taking into account that the entire tech blogosphere has dubbed the Stratosphere Verizon's SGS2. But thats the thing the "tech world" is just jumping into a huge assumption. The fact being the sgs2 was said to be 3g and the slider was shown with 4g. Now since there was only 1 phone on the roadmap from sammy with lte I would put my money on a slider for the simple fact that many testers are saying it is 3g. Check out twitter if you don't believe me. Black man x is a tester and he said it was 3g.
So you are saying there are some Verizon testers out there talking about unreleased phones on twitter when verizon is tight lipped about it? If that's what you meant, it's hard to believe. could you capture some screen shots of that?
Yeah I don't feel like looking through 15,00 of blackman_x tweets if you don't believe me then you can look through it otherwise I could care less if you believe me or not since I'm not the one who said it I was just referring to testers who hinted at certain things. Also where do you think all these leaked pics come from? Not from verizon they come from testers come on are you new to cell phone tech or just being ignorant? Common sense is verizon never reveals anything until the last minute unless its an iphone.
I didn't mean any offense to you and was just curious on your source as I lost my old twitter account and can't search for it myself right now. Yeah, I don't know fully how they leak the photos and if that's common sense to you, why is it hard to share for folks like us?
Well, I can believe some of them are real after seeing YodaDroid on Bionic finally showed his test picture of Bionic after being spanked so much on Bionic forum.
