Root what is undervoltage

I totally understand the idea of overclocking but what is undervolting and how does it work. Im fixing to try and root my x and want to have a pretty good grasp on everthing I should know before I begin.

anyone correct me if im wrong... but my grasp of undervolting is running the phone at less power than the defaults are set. stock i think is around 62 at 1ghz but I know my phone can run around 42 at 1ghz. Its basically using less power to save battery life. Its all about testing how low you can go and stay stable

Is there a separate app for undervolting or is it usually included in some of the overclocking apps?

You can use the droid x/2 overclock app to undervolt, but you will need to find your phones best settings by trial and error. I HIGHLY recommend buying quick clock advance. It will find your phones optimal settings in a couple minutes. then you can export those settings to the overclock app. It will even give you profiles to choose from whether you want performance, balanced, or battery saver. You can also use the advanced menu of the overclock app and plug in numbers at random but I suggest quick clock for its time saving convenience.

quickclock did nothing but cause my phone to reboot after installing

I've actually had good luck testing my own settings

the reboot is intentional. It keeps dropping the vsels until it reboots. Then you open it back up and it runs the other calibrations.

lol, should have been more specific

I ran the calibrations after it rebooted, and as soon as I turned the settings on, my phone was rebooting when I started doing random things like opening up my gmail

oh, i'd watch them change, and I had a pretty decent clock in the 1350 mhz range, but it didn't matter. something kept locking it up.

I had that problem too. Not every phone us the same. The app has an auto stability buffer to add 15% (default) to the bmv at each clock speed. My phone (probably due to my usage amounts) required me to change the stability buffer to 18%.

When it ask me to Select Calibrations to Run, do I just check Voltage, or all 3 (Voltage, Max Speed, and Profiles)?

I'd recommend selecting all 3. It doesn't hurt then if you want to use the max sported or profiles then that if your choice. I find them to be pretty handy and help get the most out of the app you already bought.

Where are these profiles. I haven't seen them on QuickClock yet, are they on the Overclock by JRummy?

After you have ran all of the calibrations, go into the Overclock menu of the app. Hit the menu button and tap Load Profile. it will then give you options of profiles to apply. just tap whichever profile you're interested in.

I just bought Quickclock Adv. yesterday. Is there a way to set to boot. So when I turn my phone on in the morning it's overclocked?

Nevermind I found it.

Thanks dmiller, I forget about the menu button too often. Are you the dmiller from the Nascar site?

Thanks for this thread. Been looking for some info on how to under volt and/or over clock my X. This thread shines some light on the topic. I have Droid Overclock and have no clue what to do or how to use it to do the above. I also have SetCPU, which I have one profile setup to drop the CPU speed to 300 with screen off and that is about all I have figured out. :(

Try this thread cyber, about 2/3 down the page, the Overclock sections.
