What is the meaning of the wrench icon,slanted to the left,at the top of my phone ?

Without a screenshot I can't confirm, but is it next to a settings gear icon? It sounds like what happens when you unlock the hidden system UI tuner. Once unlocked it shows a wrench next to the settings gear.

Nothing..but i just swiped the screen,down,and it showed a notification. Thanks for your help ! I'm 65,an artist/musician and touch screen phones are a PAIN IN THE_____ !!!
