id like to get a decent 64+gb micro sd for my m8. doing some searching,my brain as started to hurt,lol... i see class 10 64gb cards ranging from $7 to $119,with the main complaints about the cheaper ones not achieving class 10 speeds.

not looking for the absolute best, but rather the best "bang for the buck".

what are you all using? where did you get it?

thanks! :)

Trancend Premium 64 GB Premium is what I got. It's a great card and performs well (link removed)

I got it from Newegg, but apparently the link has changed. When I went to my old orders page it took me to the wrong item... Here is another link:

Trancend 64 GB MicroSD Still under $40.

Yeah just checked the link, it was messed up, linked to the wrong card. Even checked my order page and it improperly linked to the wrong card!

Here is another card that has pretty good reviews as well:

What type of SD card will suit this new M8?
I went to a website and it had 37 x 32GB options....bamboozled to say the least!
I see on HTC it will take up to 128MB.
But what about:
Category: SD / SDHC / SDXC
Class: 1 / 4 / 6 / 10
and there is now read/write speeds!

What is annoying 2.5 years after my 32GB HTC One X, i get the newest latest flasgship phone, and its only 16GB!?!??!

think I've got a 16g sandisk at the moment...but might upgrade to 64g if I move all my tunes to the m8

Hi, just got the 16GB M8 and loving it so far however I filled it up straight away with my old phones apps and music. Can someone recommend a good 16 or 32GB SD card for this phone.

Can i install complete apps to SD card and not the phone storage or parts of the app?

You will find some good suggestions in this thread on what SD cards work well. Concerning moving apps to the SD card, a lot has changed withe the latest release of android. You can store app data on the SD card, but it will be sand-boxed into it's own folder, meaning the app will only have access to folders that are specifically registered to the application you are using.

You can move apps after they are installed to the SD card by going into settings >Apps and selecting the app you want to move. Scroll down and select "move" and you will be asked if you want to relocate the app to the SD card.

Currently there is no setting in the play store or under storage to set apps to install to the SD card by default.

Thanks for your reply. while I'm waiting for my card to arrive I'm trying to clear some space. can someone tell me what the "other" section means in the sotage section. I have 5 gig, is it the is?
redir

I got a San Disk Ultra Class 10 128GB. When I installed it, my phone said it was only 119GB. I contacted San Disk and they said this was normal. The 128GB is really only 119GB to the user. Doesn't really matter to me but I think it's a bit deceptive.
So far no problems. One other interesting thing; when I did the HTC Transfer program, it also copied the 15GB of music and playlists from my old phone's 32GB card onto the new card without having to use a computer.

Hey there Team6! Welcome to our forums :)

The reduced available space is normal for any device. The reduced space is caused by 2 factors: The way manufacturers measure capacity (Base 10 vs Base 2) and how you format your device.

First I would make sure that you did not format the card in FAT32. This is a very wasteful format. Reformat the card using NTFS and you will reclaim some of that missing space, especially if you are filling it with a lot of small files.

FAT32 volumes consists of 2^32 clusters (a cluster being the smallest unit on a disk). Depending on the size of the disk, a cluster can range from 4KB to 64KB. NTFS volumes maintain a cluster size of 4KB.

Ex: If you have a 1KB file that you wish to save to the SD card. With a FAT32 formatted card with 32KB clusters, the wasted space is 32 - 1 = 31KB (remember that a cluster is the smallest unit on the SD card that can be written to or read from). The same SD card, formatted to NTFS with 4KB clusters, wastes just 3KB (4 - 1 = 3KB). This is a difference of 31 - 3 = 28KB with just 1 file. now imagine you have thousands of 1k files. The wasted space adds up very quickly.

Here is an article to help you understand what is going on

Yes Team 6 - memory never actually provides the same amounts stated, but they are allowed to call them those numbers....am sure somebody will point you to where you can read up on this.

Anyway, I am using a Transcend 300x 32GB SDHC UHS-1 class 10, working fine.

Thanks SolApathy for that article link. If I had read that before; I wouldn't have contacted San Disk to complain. I did find out that San Disk microSD cards over 64GB now come pre-formatted using the new exFAT file system which appeared around the time of Windows 7. According to a Google search; exFAT is "smaller, faster and more efficient" than it's predecessors. That being said; the new HTC One M8 must be compatible with exFAT because it did not reject the new pre-formatted card.
