Root What, no more development for this phone?

I never really liked this phone (save, for the 1 month it was the best 4G phone). What really saved this phone was the development for it. With the new OTA updates being rolled out, I noticed that there is no stable ROM released this year. It seems that everyone has moved on to developing the other phones (like the Razr and Raxr Maxx). You can't blame them; if I was given a choice, I would rather develop the other phones because they are much better. Hell, even the Rezound (which sports a POS battery) has much better development than the Bionic. Now, I'm running this phone unrooted and unROMed, and it freaking sucks. :(

I remember when I had the Samsung Captivate, I had the opposite problem: too may ROMs to choose, and too many version updates (like several times a week).

Droid theory is back with the axiom ics ROM. Dhacker hasn't left he's still developing for the bionic. And hash code is also there. The only thing is that they are working on ICS roms which isn't easy for any device except the gnex. I think developing a ROM that is gingerbread based is not an enticing venture for devs especially for the bionic and it's lock down bootloader.

I think innovation on gingerbread is on a stand still anyways. So I don't really feel too bad that they're aren't that many ROMs for the bionic when it'll probably just be another GB ROM that has features that I've already seen.

We now are getting nightly builds of ICS. To say that there is no development is silly. We have a devoted team working on 4 Motorola phones. I would never say there is no devopment. Sure, they don't post ROMs here, but you really have to watch dhacker, droidtheory and hashcode for their work on ICS. Head here for some builds.

And the nightly builder automatically posts new stuff on twitter here.

And as an added bonus, go here and watch as the team makes changes and works on the ROMs (the last update I saw was about 11 minutes ago).

It's not stagnant at all, it's not in a bad condition.

Yeah... The excitement is just starting really. With the nature of the latest 4 moto phones any advancement to either helps all 4.

Yeah there's plenty going on right now with the ICS ROMs. Those guys are working hard almost every day it seems. I agree with the comment that the idea of working on a Gingerbread ROM can't be too exciting now that we've gotten a taste of ICS so I wouldn't expect the developers to do much work on that anymore. ICS is addictive, I got a little tired of the bugs that still need to be ironed out so I went back to a 2.3.4 ROM but quickly decided I'd rather have ICS with a few problems.

In terms of non-ICS stuff, there is still Eclipse, Liberty, and Kin3tx, all which have versions that will still work on the newest 902 system update. Between the three of them, they have a ton of features, different visual themes, there just isn't really a need for any more ROMs to come out.

I think once the ICS ROMs are totally figured out (working front and rear camera, hardware acceleration, flash, video codecs) the development will really start to pick up again. Right now it's just a slow process of working out the bugs and releasing new updates every few days.

Development has picked up tremendously in the last few weeks! Glad to see Bionic is now getting its share! With ICS almost golden and close to perfection for the Bionic, I won't need to flash constantly like I did with the OG Droid. I also won't need a Nexus...oops, did I say that? :D

Keep eyes on those 2 sites for the next few weeks. There is at least 1 more and likely several being worked on (on the down low)

The truth is ... or should I say, MY truth is that this phone just doesn't require the "development" that previous phones have needed. Once it's rooted so you can freeze the crap you don't want in there, the phone just works. Sure, those that have a need to tinker will tinker. But it's just not "needed".

Well, I do it for funsies. :D
