Root What Now?

Jrn

Newbie
hi all ive been talking to poopookakada about rooting my desire and ive done so with visionary + but what do i do now? and what are the difference between all the ROMs? what can i do with root?

D:

please help

Is it a desire or is it a desire HD? Didn't think visionary+ works on the desire?

if it does, its not the best method for the desire as you haven't got custom recovery.

Also, never seen that member here. definitely the right forum?

It's me :)

It's not been permrooted due to the phone never being turned off. He just wants to know what can be achieved through rooting a phone before attempting a permroot.

ok ive read your FAQ and found that i already have ClockworkMod Recovery from a preveious root attempt using unrevoked (the program said it had done it but my desire remained unrooted) so i still dont know what i can do, apart from installing custom ROMs but what ROM does what? and installing apps that need superuser access, but what good ones is there?

Things like Set CPU can create good screen off profile to save battery when screen is off.

Autostarts can stop apps listening to certain events.

Autokiller (not a task kilelr) optimises memory for high end devices.

The main benefits are apps2sd+ (Another faq in my sig), custom roms (Gingerbread for example) and undervolted kernels to save further battery.

There are 2 main categories of ROM.

HTC Sense ROMS
and
AOSP ROMS.

AOSP ROMS are Vanill anadroid (no HTC sense).

Do you like HTC sense?

Oh and by the way, sounds like your previous root attempt was successful ;)

i dont like sense but i want to get sense 2 so then i can use the internet pass through (phone using computers internet using usb cable)

hi5! thank you lol, right i take it theres good instructions on how to install that ROM on the page? and whats a davlik cache?

Dalvik cache is a bit like the windows registry. Its where all apps settings for the operating system are stored.

Flashing that rom is the same as flashing any other rom. Just follow the standard steps as per my rooting FAQ.

You should probably do a factory reset before hand so back upp user apps via titanium backup first.

Most a2sd roms wont boot without a partitioned SD card, so do a nandroid backup via backup in clockwork menu. Copy all your SD card contents to PC and partition card. Steps for this are in the apps2sd+ FAQ

Ah ok thank-you lol, is it ok to use that SD manager app that I've read about some where? And is it normal for titanium backup to take forever?

SD manager? Not sure what that is, but it sounds like it moves apps to SD card like froyo does. Thats kind of not the same thing and shouldnt be used in conjunction with the a2sd (apps2sd+) solution, which is much better btw.
