Root What % of android users are rooted?

Not every one is Smart =)

a lot of people is buying these phones just because they want to be cool even though they are buying the cheapest models. Not our expensive Droid X or other models. Most android users are getting those almost free phones. I do support for a company and believe me I get every single question you can imagen.

I would confidently say less than 5%. Most people don't know what these phones are capable of. They just see flashy commercials. I almost don't like hearing that some people I know got an android phone. I know they won't know how to use it and end up disliking it. They don't know about the huge community at the ready to help them get the most out of their pocket pc.

Exactly..........i am thinking it is around 5%.
Where i work, there are 3 peeps with iPhones and one with an older Moto. The boss has a iPhone, he needed a picture taken of a part so he could email it to a customer. NONE of the four knew how to do this ! True story !
I had to take the pic with my "rooted (lol)" X and send it to him so he could send it to the customer. They all own these "phones" because they are cool to have...........

That's even worse with I*hone... those idiots get that phone just for look because they need to have some kind of attention. But most probably 97% don't know how to even sync their phones with MACs. As android phones believe me, a lot of people are just getting the cheap android phones because they think they Droid phones. I have a lot of people that even forgets the unlock pattern and the worse part they don't remeber the gmail account they used to setup their phones the first time. That's how dumb they are but hey business is business =) ... matter of fact don't be surprise if even some of the tech support don't know how to use our phones lol

I think it may be on par with the amount of people that modify their cars.. some do it just a little, others are just plain ridiculous with how far they go. This is what makes the world such an interesting place.
Think about that when you decide to put a bumper sticker on your fiesta...

gotta be small amount. some people at work have droids and they are scared to "void their warrenty"....i keep telling them, and they keep seeing all the stuff i do.

one guy just got his and was like "here man, go for it"....lol....asked him how it was working "works fine, now i can do what i want with it".....thats the idea bro....:)

the majority are iphone users, typical ones at that. think i a couple them ready to toss that iphone and get a droid, im pretty sure theyll be wanting me to root them....think theyve had/seen enough to know better now.

whatever the small percent is, i expect it will continue to rise thanks to people like us.

then theres the hot girl in the lab....updated her to froyo....she couldnt remember her google password like someone said early....pierce of junk whatever it is droid she has finally works right now....still wont let me root it cause she doesnt want to void the warrenty....im just like; o.k.
had it for how long? probably couldnt get a $1 for it. why not use it for all its worth....oh well, whatever....

everyone of my friends that has an android phone is now rooted except for one. I'm actually keeping a list of all the phones that I do stuff to. I've also rooted many phones in wireless stores and a few stores have phones that are running Roms like KayosFroyo, Liberty, Apex, Perception, Liquid Gingerbread, and a whole variety of roms. Its awesome when someone walks up to me and asks me to make their phone better. 20 minutes later I hand them it back and they all say how much cooler it is. Friends with DXs are so far the most pleased cause of the black notification bar i put on.

I would agree with the rough estimate of 5% as well.

There are 7 other people that own a DroidX where I work -and none of them can actually comprehend the full potential of this phone, yet alone what rooting can do.

Whenever I'm in the lunchroom or outside smoking, they used to always give my phone stares and ask why my phone loads everything faster than 'theirs'. I then try explaining everything to them and end up with someone looking at me with an empty face.

We CAN say that ignorance is bliss, but at the sametime most people start off by buying a smartphone for its convenience of 'internet in the palm of your hands' rather than having a phone that's 6 months ahead of its time. So I don't blame them at all.

I think you are all correct with a number of 5% or below. To someone who has not seen what rooting your phone can do to it and someone who has always just had what the companies give them by being on stock you have to admit the Droid X is an amazing phone out of the box. I came from the TouchPro 2 and the only way to make that thing work at all was put custom roms on it so I had a little idea what could be done.

However when I got my X I knew it was locked and did not expect too much, however what I had was the best phone I have ever owned. I was not planning to root, I did not see the reason. Then we started having problems with our home internet and my wife was getting pissed that they were not going to be out for 3 days to fix it so I thought I can root my X and we can still have wifi at the house and that worked great.

Shortly after that the 2.2 leak came out, then I wanted to theme it because I was tired of the white notification bar, then I thought oh well, lets put a ROM on this. So I have tried almost every ROM out there, have a huge stock of back-ups on my home computer and the rest is history. No need to upgrade this phone, it is amazing.

I just think there are a lot of people that have never had a phone this good to start with and think what more can it really do. Thanks to the development community we all know that answer is a lot more. I just think when you have a good phone to start with you are going to see less people trying to do more with it.

The black notification bar was the reason I rooted and themed my phone back in August, since then I've done anything and everything you can with this phone.

Out of 7 of my close friends 6 are on android, 3 are Rooted (including myself) and one is debating (just got the DX 2 days ago).

Also, Im the only one at my company with a Rooted Android device, which seems odd to me as I work at a fairly large engineering firm.
