What phone as a computer replacement

Someone in my life does not have internet ans does not want to get internet.
They are looking for a phone that would give them wifi hotspots access.
The carrier offers unlimited data slows down after 10gbs. This person owns a old I book 12" 500mhz ppc and would tether with that.

As you can imagine the computer has a very outdated browser and does not load Facebook right. So I think a phone with a big screen would be good.

At the carrier their choices are:

IPhone 4s
HTC wildfire s
SG S2
Galaxy Nexus

Ans that's it. Other wise its blackberry or the HTC radar 4g (3.5g speeds).
 
Big screen eliminates iPhone.

Galaxy SII or Galaxy Nexus would either one be great choices. Both may have to be rooted depending on the carrier to tether. If I was choosing between those 2 right now I personally would choose the Nexus, but I am very happy with my GSII.

I know the first 2 nexus phones did, but I wasn't sure about the Galaxy Nexus. I know google compromised and allowed Verizon to make a few changes so I didn't know how many changes they have allowed on various carriers since I haven't had the opportunity of owning a Galaxy Nexus.
 
I think another one to consider, is the Samsung Galaxy Note. Large screen is nice, especially if you're using the phone to replace a computer.
