What platform is Android built on?

I don't think all Android "fans" (of which I am one) or all Apple "fans" can be lumped into the extremist groups that we are speaking of here. There are plenty of fans of both who purchase the products that best suit their needs, without needing to feel strongly against those products that belong in a group that they don't purchase.
I don't use Apple because they don't make the products that most appeal to my needs. That's it. I don't hate them or trash talk them, and have even recommended them to those who like to keep it simple and clean.
I am sure I am not the only Android or Apple fan who feels this way.
I actually find it offensive when I hear people labeled into these "fanboy" groups, like all fans of a product are mindlessly identical.
Choice is a good thing!:)

honestly, i see far more smug attitudes from 'fandroids' as they are termed. if you so much as see one article on ZDNet or such praising Apple for ANYTHING, the comments are chock full of folks shouting 'biased!!!' 'iSheep author!' 'You are being paid by Apple to say that!'

the attitude of Fandroids is far far worse. never have i seen any Apple person hate on anything. they may inaccurately claim Android fails at something based on their experience (all of five minutes) with some ancient version like 1.0 but that's it. they don't seem to fill comments on blogs or articles with outright hate.

ironically, NO one ever hates on Microsoft Windows Phone in any such blog or site. not that i can recall anyway.

what i just don't grasp is why Android people care. i mean, not only is Android #1 so far, and in so many ways far more functional, but Apple is pulling a Research in Motion, which i can see them being in the same spot a year or so from now. so first of all Android people have nothing to worry about. i mean if someone chooses iPhone over Android they are bullied or called iSheep or declared 'noobs' and their phone a 'toy useless for anything but Angry Birds'. it is such a condescending attitude it makes me sick. so they chose a device you don't like. why do YOU care? why does ANY Android fan care? i mean are people supposed to choose ONLY Android because it's #1? what happened to the freedom of a person to have the freedom to choose between more than one type of smartphone or tablet? why does Android always have to be the de-facto choice? i actually like being able to choose between three different platforms (or four if you honestly believe BlackBerry exists or is worth investing in these days), and often find myself using all of them because there is just no way each can do it all, and i get to learn the good and bad of both.

Sorry but I just cannot agree with that in the slightest, iSheep are far worse than any so called "Fandroid". They consistently troll forums and comment sections(particularly here on Phandroid).

And there's no hate for Windows Phone because no one really cares.

funny as every article i read is full of Fandroids calling anyone who dares own an Apple product a Borg Drone, iSheep, declaring the author paid by Apple, etc. never see it the other way around. and i certainly don't see it in person. i live in an area dominated by iUsers and quite frankly it does not affect me in the least. i hardly see an Android in the wild at all, and i never see a BlackBerry. it is clear Apple sells more here but i never get bullied by my choice of device. many don't even know what an 'Android' even IS. most assume it's the 'Droid' brand by Motorola. a good percentage are not sure what operating system their phone even uses!

no doubt though i have impressed tons with my cheap little Precedent using apps like Sherpa and my endless themes ranging from iOS, to BlackBerry 10. they don't even know it's an Android phone but they sometimes ask me how they can get what i got. none have noticed the 'Samsung' logo at all. to most here, a blue-collar state, if you've seen one rectangular touch-screen phone you've seen 'em all. most couldn't tell an 'iPhone' from any other and the only time one knows something is a BlackBerry is if it has the iconic keyboard.

Ironically i've seen more iPhone users being the type who loves hunting. being opposed to that act myself it turned me off of iOS just for how it sells to those types. the OtterBox Team Realtree camo case is the most popular here. the few Android users (mostly HTC Evos and Desires, some GS3s but mainly Droids) are often pre-paid GoPhone tweens and kids. the only BlackBerry is my mother's Torch. a worker i work with has a rather beat up Torch with the front keys broken off. that's pretty much it for BlackBerry.

It's shifted mainly thanks to Samsung's ad campaigns making fun of Apple guys in lines with their longer list of features and stuff that the iPhone can't do. Mostly the iPhone people have quieted down and say that at least ours work.

Android being able to cater to a wider market thanks to companies making cheaper devices have attracted people who sour grape because they initially wanted and iPhone but can't afford one so they went for a cheaper Android alternative. Then they bash Apple so they can feel good about their choice. Or they could be just angry people. No offence to Indians (the Asian ones), but whenever I go to GSMArena, when I see the comments, the Euros and Americans are having conversations, but the Indians are pretty worked up. They own high end devices according to them, but they're quite intent on bashing Apple. I dunno if its a culture thing. Sure some of them can give pretty civilized conversations, but there seems to be a lot of angry people from there.

I'm not really bothered by people who hate other products or companies (there are plenty reasons for that), I just ignore iSheep or "Fandroid" alike. But Apple kind of brought it upon themselves with their own smug attitude (Mac vs PC commericals anyone?) as well as their iPhone ads. They claim to be the best, offer the best, claim to be innovative etc. then the die hard Apple fans buy into all of that and troll forums etc. Nearly every single instance of Apple bashing I have seen was mostly due to Android fans responding to attacks from Apple fans. For years they've acted all high and mighty, no reason to be bothered when they get a taste of their own medicine.

I see a lot of Indian people on forums like XDA and most of them seem to have low end phones.

I think everyone just got trolled.

Perhaps, but this wouldn't be the first time I've come across someone genuinely asking this, or something equally eyebrow-raising. It's a little disturbing the number of people with odd misconceptions about technology. I've run into a lot of it trying to convince people to give Linux a try, but they either think it's like it was in the early 2000's when the GUI looked like it was Windows 3.1/95. Or they're afraid they won't be able to do the most basic of tasks like write their resume or use the Internet because Linux lacks MS Office or Internet Explorer. Or those who can't live without their precious Gamehouse games.

It's because iSheep aren't aware of anything outside of Apple :D. It's all "Not Apple? Baaaaaaaaaaad."

Oh, and I think "Borg Drone" is more of a Microsoft thing.
