I have a galaxy note 2 and absolutely love it but it is showing its age now. It restarts, doesn't hold a charge as well. I've deleted most of my texts, got rid of a lot of apps etc and that has helped but not as much as I would like. Of course, that makes me think of upgrading. Also, in the recent past, I have purchased a tablet which I like but don't use near as much as I thought I would. So my question is, should I upgrade to a note 3, wait for the note 4 or get a galaxy s5 and use my tablet more? Any advice?

I would get the Note 3 but then again I would say that wouldn't I :)
I gave my Note 2 to my wife and got the Note 3, I didn't want to sell my Note 2 as it is a cracking phone and when my wife said she would have it, then that was sorted. She absolutely loves the Note 2 and sold her Ipad not long after getting it, just as I did when I got my Note 3.
You could wait for the Note 4 but if it's anything like the upgrade from S4 to S5, it wasn't really worth the wait (in my view) but I initially bought into the Note series to use it as a phone and tablet, as it was intended.

That was kinda my thoughts. If they add their dimpled case to the note 4 that would really suck. That s5 back is as ugly as anything I've ever seen. Rather then trying to make their plasticky case look expensive they need to go back to the back to the shiny back or go with better materials. Thanks for the advice.

The shiny back looked good but I much prefer the faux leather look on the Note 3, big reason for me is the Note 2 had one or two very near misses (when I didn't have a case on it) where it nearly slipped out of my hands, ok I did have fingerless gloves on but it was close lol.

4 months isn't a long time to wait for the Note 4. My advice would be to wait until then because the Note 3 will still be the same tech 4 months down the line. If the Note 4 doesn't live up to expectations, there should be some great deals on the Note 3 at that time and it'll still be a phone worth having.

sounds like it might be the battery getting old.. and about to go bad.
rebooting and not keeping a charge for long.

a new battery might make the phone .. good as new!
batteries are cheap on Amazon!

then you can easily wait for the Note4.

I concur with dan's recommendation as well.

Another voice for the new battery and wait for the Note 4, The Note 3 is a killer device but I think we're going to get a screen size bump to the full 6 inches or maybe 5,9 inches based on past Note upgrades and the 801 processor on the Note 4 will make it really snappy response wise.

a new battery and install custom ROM, DittoNote ROM from XDA devs forum gives you all Note 3 features ( plus nearly 2 days of battery life even with fairly heavy use ) had it on my Note 2 for a while before getting the Note3 and can honestly say that the only reason I upgraded was that I wanted the 4G that the Note2 didn't have, Note3 does have a nicer screen and little bit less weight

And I'd start reading up on some of the rumors for the Note 4, to see if they are overall adding up to something that you feel you could wait for:

Samsung SM-N910 reportedly the Galaxy Note 4, headed to all major US carriers | SamMobile

For me personally, I loved the Note 2 (didn't really "need" to upgrade), but the Note 3 had 32gb internal, which made a big difference for my needs. If the Note 4 were to have 32 or 64 options, I'd consider upgrading again, for the 64 (and assuming the phone doesn't get physically bigger overall or very minimal increase). Although I lost some things that proved very useful using between my Note 2 and Note 8, I've managed to work without them.

There are always going to be pros and cons (regardless of which phone is being considered), so ultimately sticking it out for the "newest" version is a good option (if fairly close to release), if the existing version would still be just as relevant.
