Help What size for wallpaper?

Wow... well that "answer" from jimymartin was... weird. Don't worry krayziejoe, we're not all like that here, haha.

Anyway, because the wallpaper doesn't scroll due to the carousel in Sense, ideally-sized wallpapers are exactly the same size as the screen: 540 x 960. Earlier, I tested this by making a checkerboard image of this size by alternating every adjacent pixel between pure black and pure white. If the image was being stretched or distorted to fit the screen, I would have seen solid lines or blurring in my checkerboard pattern. I did not; I saw a perfect checkerboard, so I know I had my image sized exactly right.

Hope this helps!

Oh, BTW (bonus tip): I've made a couple custom wallpapers and have learned that they look MUCH better if they are very dark. Otherwise, it's hard to read the white text on all of the icons. If the wallpaper is dark, it's much less intrusive and confusing to look at. The sweet spot (for me) is: after I've made the wallpaper look like I want it, I lower the brightness by 50% and lower the contrast by 30%. Images that are dark to begin with might need a little tweaking beyond that.

A good rule of thumb is to take the screen dimensions, double the width and that is the perfect size for wallpapers. For instance the screen size on my phone is 480x800, the perfect size wallpapers for my phone are 960x800 (no cropping needed). This rule has worked for the last four android phones I've used.

Actually, that answered something I've always wondered for most Android phones, so much appreciated. Sense 3.0 is different though because the wallpaper doesn't scroll left to right as you flip through the home screens (it's completely stationary and the carousel rotates in front of it). Therefore, it needs to be exactly the same width as the display.

Very good point. I used a Sense 3.0 ROM on my Evo 4G and wondered why the wallpaper didn't scroll. I wonder if other manufacturers will adopt this feature.

This is one of my least favorite "features" of Sense 3.0. I loved the parallax style wallpaper scrolling; this just felt more dynamic and interesting. I've since switched to Go Launcher Ex just to get that back.

There is a simple App called "Backgrounds". It has thousands of Retina Display resolution wallpapers and they look amazing on the Evo3D qHD Display.

I have used this app before but from what I can tell the resolution of all the backgrounds are only 640 by 480 which is garbage. Is there a setting or an option in that app that will allow you search for a higher res background?

Edit: Personally I use flickie wallpapers, the resolution on these are 960 by 854 which is way better than the back ground app. But like what others have said sense 3.0 doesn't rotate like it used to so the sides are gonna get cut off.

I'm trying to find a good 300 background, but one scene I want in particular is this one:

Now that was taken with my camera so it looks like crap. Anyone know how to take a "screenshot" from a movie?

gotta use vlc player my friend also after a late night google search i found that if u save the picture as 1080*960 you won't have to crop since it will stretch out completely over the whole picture

My Sprint HTC Hero is an HVGA handset. This is 320 x 480 resolution, so to make a wallpaper that was the correct size that also did the panning as you swiped from home screen to home screen, you would apply a 640 x 480 resolution wallpaper which is VGA.

So, I think with the Sprint HTC EVO 3D being qHD, which is 540 x 960 resolution, you would need a wallpaper that is 1080 x 960 resolution. That should give you the same ability to have the proper panning as you swipe between home screens.
